SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree or higher, with a major in educational administration.
  • A valid New Jersey Principal certificate.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

JOB GOAL:

To manage assigned school in a manner which promotes the educational development of each student and the professional growth of each staff member.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Directs the implementation of all state and district approved curriculums.
  • Initiates, designs and implements programs to meet special needs of students.
  • Develops and implements an effective discipline code to assure an orderly learning environment.
  • Supervises the instructional process as required by state law and district policy.
  • Plans, organizes and directs the implementation of all school activities.
  • Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and support for overall school goals.
  • Interprets board policies and administrative directives to segments of the school community as they apply.
  • Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their professional development.
  • Coordinates responsibilities and supervises assigned support staff.
  • Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance as required by state law and district policy.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
  • Takes part in the screening of candidates for vacant teaching and non-certificated positions within the realm of responsibility.
  • Coordinates school professional development programs including required training, activities related to the school professional development committee, Professional Growth Plan activities, and participation in professional meetings as required or appropriate.
  • Attends special school events held to recognize students or staff, and attends school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events.
  • Works with central administrative staff in the implementation of programs, special projects, and the construction of district goals and objectives.
  • Keeps the superintendent informed of the school's activities and problems.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Prepares and submits the school's budgetary request and monitors the expenditures of funds.
  • Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with state and board regulations/policies by the Superintendent of Schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve month year.

Salary: The salary for this position shall be set in accordance with the negotiated salary guidelines in the VTAA agreement, https://www.voorhees.k12.nj.us/our-district-09/employment-opportunities/emplyment-contractsBenefits: Full-time employees are eligible for medical, dental and vision benefits. Sick, personal, and bereavement days are provided. Certain professional development and/or training may be eligible for reimbursement. Position is eligible for membership in TPAF.
