TITLE: School Psychologist

FLSA:   Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Under general supervision promotes the conditions whereas students and staff acquire the knowledge, skills, and personal confidence needed for success and in particular to provide high-quality comprehensive school psychological services.  

REPORTS TO:  Building Administrator and Director of Special Services

Reports to:

Director of Special Services. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Conducts comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations for all initial referrals and reevaluations in accordance with federal, state and district guidelines and timelines 
• Processes and coordinates the placement of identified students with disabilities who move into Spartanburg School District 2 from other school districts, agencies, states and students who may require a change of special education services placement. 
• Provides consultation with administrators, regular class teachers, special education teachers, guidance counselors, curriculum coordinators, vocational rehabilitation counselors, etc. concerned about children exhibiting particular learning and/or behavior problems. 
• Participates in IEP meetings. 
• Assist in monitoring records to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Conducts evaluations of students referred for disciplinary issues and hearings. 
• Act as liaison between schools and district office staff. 
• Coordinates with community agencies and private service providers. 
• Assists in planning and implementing in-service training for teachers as needed. 
• Provides consultation on functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans for students exhibiting behavior problems. 
• Conducts evaluations as directed for students suspected of having disabilities defined in Section 504 of the vocational Rehabilitation Act. 
• Effective time management skills.
• Performs other related duties as required. 

QUALIFICATIONS:             

• Ability to perform required evaluations 
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel and parents  

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• Master's Degree 
• Meets minimum standards for certification as set forth by the South Carolina State Board of Education for the certification of School Psychologist II, Masters + 30

Working Conditions:

Office environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions.  Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to twenty-five pounds.  Routine local or regional travel required; occasional overnight travel required.  Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines.  Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

SALARY:

• District’s Teacher Salary Schedule (190-day contract)
• Full-Time position
• Salary: 57,000 - 80,000 (200 days)
