SUMMARY OF PURPOSE

The School Psychologist will work to enhance students' educational progress. The services of the School Psychologist are delivered as a member of a multidisciplinary team. School psychologists provide a variety of services within the LIU and to constituent districts, which are assignment specific. Generally, duties may include a combination of direct and indirect interactions designed to support the educational progress of students through diagnostic assessment, development of emotional and behavioral improvement plans, counseling activities, regular and special education classroom support as well as participation in building and district-wide initiatives.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Master's degree in School Psychology Pennsylvania certification as a School Psychologist PK-12

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serves as a member educational teams (e.g. MDT, IEP, MTSS, ISE, etc.) concerning recommendations for classroom strategies, educational and placement and programming.

Performs psychological, educational and instructional evaluations and re-evaluations as formally requested. When necessary, these evaluations/re-evaluations will be implemented through formal assessment procedures as related to possible changes in the educational placement of students. Additional assessments may include curriculum-based assessment, classroom observations, teacher conferences, parent conferences, etc.

Performs screenings and assessments including Suicide Risk and Threat Assessments when deemed appropriate.

Acts as liaison between school, family, and community agencies.

Performs individual and group counseling with students and/or parents.

Provides conflict resolution services to reduce the tension of pupils, parents and school personnel in conflict by assessing the situation, providing understanding and support, and offering alternatives for action.

Conducts presentations to various stakeholders within the LIU on specific areas related to his/her own qualifications and individual competencies, upon request of the principals, program supervisors and appropriate designated district personnel via the Supervisor of Pupil Personnel Services

Attends in-service meetings pertaining to members of the Pupil Personnel Services staff and LIU related trainings.

Identifies the educational needs of students that includes their intellectual, social, behavioral, and emotional capabilities in order to meet the specific needs of regular and/or special needs pupils that determine FAPE.

Participates in conferences and regular communication with parents, school staff, and agency staff.

Conducts counseling of students on a group or individual basis consistent with IEP required services. If no IEP exists, students may be counseled on a group or individual basis subsequent to appropriate consent and established need.

Monitors, upon request, the activities of the intern psychologists.

Participates as assigned in any statewide or mandated statewide initiatives, i.e. BrainSteps

Develops as assigned, either collaboratively or independently, tools/resources to support current and future needs of education for both LIU and school district programs and use.

Collaborates, as assigned, with agencies to support, design, offer ongoing mental health supports for students in LIU and school district programs

Provides services to the highest ethical standard as established by the National Association of School Psychologists. DIVISION/ORGANIZATION

Keeps current with related technology and developments that impact the division and the organization.

Makes decisions consistent with the LIU mission and core values, establishes and maintains effective communication and positive relationships within the LIU, and fosters professional development of LIU staff.

Contributes to the effective team management of all issues and opportunities within the LIU by modeling the qualities of an LIU Team member (being versatile, ethical, transparent, team-oriented, innovative, transformative and collaborative; valuing each team member; and understanding the importance of customer service.)

Understands organizational development and change principles and applies these principles to promote improvement within the Division.

Performs other functions as assigned by the Division Director.
