PRIMARY PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this position will be to provide appropriate psychological services to the students of the school district. To provide these services through psychological evaluations and analysis, individual and group intervention, behavioral observations, and consultations, maintain a professional working relationship with other school personnel and community agencies to promote better educational programs and mental health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assess referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practice. Interpret testing results and implications to school staff, parents, and students as needed. Writes psychological reports and completes eligibility reports. Determines through assessment or the Response to Intervention (RTI) process the eligibility of students for special education services. Contributes to the development of the Individualized Education Plans (IEP), including assessment of students and development of present levels of performance and IEP goals. Makes eligibility recommendations for general and exceptional students as needed. Organizes and leads multidisciplinary team meetings and assessments of referred students. Maintains accurate case records on referred students. Develops and offers recommendations to support students with challenges in and out of special education. Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for students who may benefit from such intervention. Confers with teachers and parents through conducting classroom observations and providing feedback, b participating in Student Support Meetings, and c assisting in collaborative problem-solving. Makes recommendations regarding placement and program appropriate to individual students. Serves as a consultant on mental health topics. Attends staff professional and interagency meetings. Assists with in-service training of school personnel as needed. Responds to crisis situations to provide mental health support to students and staff. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Keep current of new developments in the field of special education by reading journals and publications, attending professional society meetings and seminars, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Daily work will be assigned and supervised by the building principal. Interacts regularly with various support staff, students, parents, and other district employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The daily work is performed in an office/classroom setting and at various sites within the district. The job incumbent is often required to stand or sit for prolonged periods, be exposed to computer display terminal for prolonged periods, and meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines. The incumbent is sometimes required to be exposed to infectious diseases and deal with distraught, angry, or hostile individuals.

Education and Experience
Masters Degree in Psychology
Valid Washington State Education Staff Associate teaching certificate with an endorsement in School Psychology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to work with students of diverse academic and behavioral needs. Demonstrates skill in interviewing and conducting student counseling groups. Demonstrates skill in psychological testing and evaluation. Ability to analyze and interpret assessment results. Knowledge of state and federal laws, district policies, and procedures regarding confidentiality and eligibility as they apply to special education. Ability to relate in a positive manner to students, parents, teachers, principals, and community agents. Critical thinking skills required. Ability to attend to detail. Sensitivity to cultural and language differences. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality. May require the ability to produce accurate documents using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software on both Macintosh and PC computers.

One or more of the following credentials is required:
Valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in School Psychology. Valid Drivers License or photo identification. Social Security Card. WSPFBI fingerprint background clearance. FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT Exempt.
