SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide consultation services with teachers, teacher assistants, on behavioral interventions, data collection, and psychological/psychiatric conditions.
  • Consult and provide consultation services with related service staff (i.e.- speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists) on behavioral strategies utilized during their sessions as well as progress made by the students.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services with students.
  • Conduct all psychological/cognitive testing for students as well as assist teachers in scoring and analyzing educational evaluations.
  • Complete Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in preparation for IEP/CSE meetings or as necessary
  • Submit all necessary paperwork and input student management needs and pertinent evaluations and information into a student’s IEPs.
  • Participate in CSE meetings including annuals, re-evaluations, and requested reviews. Chair CSE meetings when necessary.
  • Collect and analyze behavior data to monitor the effectiveness of student’s individual behavior intervention plans and submit quarterly behavior progress notes.
  • Consult with campus psychiatrist as needed to address behavior or medication related concerns.
  • Chair and run classroom team builder’s meetings to discuss student behavior concerns with assigned classrooms.
  • Attend weekly campus wide critical behavior meetings to discuss behavioral concerns and progress of students.
  • Maintain training and certification in all aspects of therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI), restraint techniques, and behavior management and provide immediate TCI to provide structure and support in line with the TCI curriculum and students individual BIPs.
  • Model composure and good judgement during crisis situations.
  • Models and contributes positively to the overall climate of the school using positive behavior intervention and supports (PBIS) with both students and staff members. Is an active member of the PBIS committee.
  • Participate and provide feedback in intake meetings and screenings of incoming students. Interpreting evaluative test results for the team when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned such as assisting in arrival/dismissal, fire drills, staffing, field trips, events, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • NYSED School Psychologist certification (Initial or Permanent)
  • Experience working with the developmentally disabled population.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft word, excel, and power point. Proficiency in IEP management software, Cleartrack, and behavior data management software, Ensora.
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • This position requires successful completion and maintenance of therapeutic crisis intervention training which includes a written test and demonstration of physical restraints, as specified by the program and regulatory body.

Working Conditions:

  • Staff are expected to arrive on time for the school day and utilize UKG Pro software to punch in/out and manage their timecards.
  • School hours are 8:15-3:15 but may be subject to change within a reasonable limit.
  • Frequent absences and tardiness will not be tolerated.
  • School staff receive one 30-minute lunch break per day.
  • Attendance and participation are required in all assigned trainings and meetings.
  • Staff must obtain an annual physical and PPD as per requirement.
  • Staff must adhere to SCO agency policies and procedures, (employee handbook) as well as program specific policies and procedures (TLC program manual/orientation manual).

  • Welcome and assist new staff members in learning school wide and student specific programs/curriculum.
  • Always focus on creating positive outcomes and have a clear understanding of the complex needs of the student population.
  • Complete situation reports, restraint forms, accident/incident reports etc. as required in a timely manner.
  • Follow guidelines for building security and parking regulations.
  • Participate in fire drills and other emergency drills, ensuring student supervision and oversight at all times.
  • Care for the equipment and supplies used by the students including securing electronic devices, keeping materials organized and stored appropriately, and recommending purchases of supplies as per purchasing and ordering procedures.
