Reports To: School Psychologist (Supervisor) & Director of the Atascosa McMullen Co-op

Duration: Full School Year (e.g., 1,200+ hours)

Position Summary

The School Psychology Intern works under the direct supervision of a credentialed School

Psychologist to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world educational setting. This role

focuses on supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success of all students

through evaluation, consultation, and intervention. The intern will transition from observation to

independent practice as the year progresses, fulfilling the requirements for national or state

certification.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assessment & Evaluation

? Conduct comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations to determine eligibility for

Special Education services (e.g., IDEA categories like SLD, ID, OHI, Autism, and ED).

? Administer and score standardized assessments measuring cognitive ability, academic

achievement, and social-emotional functioning.

? Perform functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and assist in developing Behavior

Intervention Plans (BIPs).

? Synthesize data into professional, readable reports for parents and school teams.

  1. Consultation & Collaboration

? Participate in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) or Response to Intervention (RTI)

meetings to suggest data-driven interventions.

? Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student learning and

behavioral challenges.

? Consult with outside agencies and medical providers to coordinate student care.

  1. Direct Student Support

? Provide individual and group counseling for students with IEP-mandated goals or those in

general education.

? Offer crisis intervention and support during school-wide emergencies or individual

student crises.

  1. Compliance & Documentation

? Contribute and/or facilitate ARD meetings.

? Maintain accurate, confidential student records in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.

? Track internship hours and activities as required by the university program and state

licensing board.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Category Requirement

Education Current enrollment in an accredited School

Psych program.

Status Completion of all required practicum hours and

"Internship Readiness" status from the university.

Knowledge Strong understanding of child development,

psychometrics, and federal/state special

education laws.

Communication Ability to explain complex psychological data to

non-experts (parents and teachers) with

empathy and clarity.

Ethics Strict adherence to the NASP Principles for

Professional Ethics.

Physical & Environmental Demands

? Ability to travel between multiple school sites within the district.

? Capacity to remain composed and professional in high-stress or emotionally charged

situations.

? Physical ability to engage in "floor-time" with younger students or move quickly during

crisis response if necessary.

Note to Applicants: This internship is designed to be a mentorship-heavy

experience. While you will be given significant responsibility, you will have a

dedicated supervisor to provide at least two hours of face-to-face supervision per

week to ensure your professional growth and the safety of our students.
