School Security Personnel
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma/ College degree preferred
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- One year or more of progressively responsible experience in security-related field.
- Demonstrate the ability to exercise good judgement under stressful and potentially
dangerous conditions.
- Have excellent organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm, with the ability to relate effectively to
students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
- High levels of integrity, moral character, and initiative.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing,
using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status (completion of Federal Form I-0).
- Clearance from a criminal history background check conducted by the Department of
Education
- Successful completion of the State-required Mantoux Tuberculin Test and physical
examination.
Reports To: Building Principle, Manager of Security Personnel, District Director of Safety &
Security
Nature of Scope of Job: The School Security Personnel promotes attitudes of student
responsibility and assists the professional staff with the safety of students and staff and the security
of the facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sufficient mobility to patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside
facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and
well-being of students, staff, and the security of the facility.
- Ensure a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on-
time arrival to class and to assigned locations.
- Monitor and assist students upon entering and leaving the school.
- Assist with supervision in the breakfast and lunch periods and with morning arrival and
afternoon dismissal of students.
- Remove disruptive students from classes when needed.
- Assist school administrators with applying the school security plan and with other
security-related matters.
- Assist the professional staff, police, and emergency personnel in handling emergencies or
disruptive situations.
- Encourage and ensure that students wear identification badges.
- Assist visitors with directions and secure proper identification.

- Prevent unauthorized visitors from entering the building and take appropriate action to
remove them from school premises.
- Report any discipline infractions, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to the
Principal.
- Notify the building administration, police, and/or appropriate emergency personnel of
any emergency, potentially dangerous, or unusual situations.
- Cooperate with and provide assistance to fire and police department personnel
responding to alarms.
- Immediately notify appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse,
child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals
appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic
steroids.
- Assist the Child Study team with disruptive students as needed.
- Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs.
- Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model
dressing and grooming professionally.
- Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school
personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
- Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff/students and use discretion
when required to share any such information.
- Adhere to Board of Education policies and procedures.
- Have knowledge and enforce, with assistance of appropriate staff members, all school
rules and regulations which pertain to the safety and welfare of students and staff.
- Complete and submit all required forms on a timely basis.
- Perform other duties as specified by the Building Principal/ Manager of Security
Personnel.

- Required documentation outlined in the qualifications above.
- A minimum of three letters of reference from former employers, teachers, professors or
other professional sources.
- Employment interview.
- Official college transcript (if applicable).

Terms of Employment:
11-month exempt salaried position with agreement between the Perth Amboy Federation and the
Perth Amboy Board of Education. Salary, benefits, and leave time as specified in the Collective
Bargaining Agreement. Conditions established by laws and codes of the State, and policies,
rules, and regulations established by the Board of Education (N.J.S.A. 18A:27-4 et). The School
Security Sergeant will be evaluated by the Principal or Manager of Security Personnel.
