Position Details

Title: School Social Worker

Qualifications: A Master's Degree in Social Work and approval by the State Board of Education as a School Social Worker

Job Goal: To provide social work services to students who qualify for Special Education Services. This shall include, but not be limited to, completion of evaluations, reports, serving as a member of the IEP team, development of therapy goals, delivery of services, and consultation with appropriate individuals.

Essential Duties:

  • Completion of comprehensive, diagnostic evaluations of children suspected of being Autistic or Emotionally Impaired. Provide a written and oral report to the IEP and MET teams detailing the results of the evaluation in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate or serve as a member of the MET diagnostic teams and IEP teams in the identification of a disability and development of supports and/or services to enable a qualifying student to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program.
  • Identify problems and situations that interfere with children's ability to make optimal use of the educational experience and to develop appropriate goals and objectives based on students' needs.
  • Provide a problem-solving service to children and their families, through individual, group, and community social work methods, so as to enable those served to cope with problems adversely affecting the ability of children to make optimal use of educational experience.
  • Serve as a consultant with school staff and parents in altering situations adversely affecting the personal, social-emotional, and academic development of children, including the coordination of the development of Positive Behavioral Support Plans.
  • Champion school-wide MTSS initiatives by training staff and families on behavioral strategies (FBAs/BSPs), identifying barriers to student success, and advocating for equitable policies that promote a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, the home, and the community in building and maintaining positive relationships and developing resources within and outside the school system for use by children, their families, and school personnel.
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports, including but not limited to: service documentation, student progress toward goals, and Medicaid billing (as appropriate).
  • Meet required timelines, including but not limited to reports, evaluations, IEP, and MET requirements.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, as appropriate.
  • Must use appropriate technology to complete aspects of the job, including but not limited to the use of computer applications (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Office), web-based electronic programs, email, and voicemail.

General Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc., and provide documentation to the business office before the expiration date of said document(s).
  • Travel to meet job requirements.
  • Adhere to Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Director of Special Education

This is a full-time position within the BIEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions established by the Administration.
