Job Description

Position Summary

The School Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting students between their homes, schools, designated bus stops, and approved activities while maintaining a safe, professional, and reliable transportation environment. The driver must comply with all applicable Massachusetts 7D requirements, company policies, school district requirements, and transportation procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Safely transport students between their homes, schools, designated bus stops, and approved after-school activities.
  2. Pick up and drop off students at designated locations according to the assigned transportation schedule.
  3. Transport students to and from approved day-care and after-school programs as assigned.
  4. Perform daily school-to-school, home-to-school, and other assigned transportation routes.
  5. Transport students to approved summer programs, camps, athletic activities, games, field trips, and other school-related activities.
  6. Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report any mechanical, safety, or maintenance concerns.
  7. Ensure the assigned vehicle is kept clean and in a safe and presentable condition; coordinate vehicle maintenance and cleaning as directed by management.
  8. Be prepared to cover alternate routes, additional assignments, or substitute routes when requested by dispatch or management.
  9. Maintain accurate records and report fuel usage, mileage, passenger counts, and other required transportation information.
  10. Maintain accurate student passenger accountability and ensure students are picked up and dropped off at the correct locations.
  11. Follow all applicable traffic laws, Massachusetts 7D regulations, school district requirements, and ACL Transportation policies and procedures.
  12. Report all delays, accidents, incidents, student concerns, vehicle problems, or other unusual circumstances promptly to dispatch or management.
  13. Respond appropriately to emergency and non-emergency situations and follow company procedures for reporting and handling incidents.
  14. Maintain appropriate professional conduct and ensure that students are transported in a safe, respectful, and secure environment.
  15. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and follow all applicable school district and company confidentiality requirements.
  16. Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, school personnel, monitors, dispatchers, and management.
  17. Complete all required company, school district, and regulatory training and maintain all required licenses, certifications, and clearances.
  18. Perform other transportation-related duties and reasonable assignments as directed by management.
