Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

FRESHwater: Clean water is a universal and constant need throughout the world. Water is an important part of every person's life, health, and well-being, and access to it helps our communities flourish. Water professionals help make this possible by serving as engineers, facility operators, executives, educators, and more. Passionate workers in the water sector are especially needed today as the world faces a number of water crises, putting communities, at risk.
 
Students are invited to connect with the drinking water and wastewater treatment sector by participating in the FRESHwater summer program. They will spend 5 days on the ISU campus learning about environmental science and engineering, the water sector, participating in research with ISU professors, visiting and learning about treatment facilities, and connecting to leaders in the field.

Amaizing Roots: During this five-day residential program at Iowa State University, students will gain hands-on experience with microscopy, phenotyping, and basic coding using maize (corn) root systems grown in a controlled environment system. They will learn about root growth and development in a key crop and develop skills in ImageJ and RStudio. At the end of the program, scholars will present their findings.

Ape Initiative: This program offers students an opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Ape Initiative research facility. They will be able to work with research scientists who directly participate in bonobo research. The focus of the research surrounds bonobo behavior, interactions with one another, and the conservation of the species. They will conduct research, help with data collection, and present their findings.
 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Progress towards or a completed undergraduate degree in an ASTEM or education field

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with youth programming (educational programming, day or overnight camp leadership, etc.)
Experience leading and/or organizing youth and related activities
Experience in any of content areas of the camps or previous experience with these specific camps


Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
