Job Title: Science Coordinator
Reports to: Assistant Supt. of Curriculum
Dept./School: Curriculum & Instruction
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: AC3 - 226 Days
Primary Purpose:
The Science Coordinator works with classroom teachers, special educators, and support services staff to implement quality science instruction for students who need science support within and beyond their classrooms. The Science Coordinator is responsible for delivering a science program designed to meet student needs and providing staff development or additional support services, including model teacher lessons, based on the needs of the campus. The science coordinator will assist in the integration of technology in the science laboratory. The science coordinator will assist in the maintenance of the science inventory and implementation of science laboratories.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university, Master's preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned, or
- Valid Teaching Permit
- Science subject area concentration
- Proficient with state and national science standards
Special Knowledge/Skills:- Thorough science content knowledge K-12
- Proficient in differentiating instruction for diverse learners
- Proficient in curriculum alignment
- Knowledge of science cross-curriculum integration
- Knowledge of experimental laboratory design
- Knowledge of science laboratory technology integration
- Ability to manage a science laboratory inventory and to set up class laboratory experiments
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years teaching experience. Prior training in district science initiatives (preferred) and
campus leadership experience (preferred)

Instructional and Program Support:- Meet with grade level/departmental teams to assist in integration of the science TEKS in the PK-12 curriculum.
- Assist teachers in developing curriculum-based assessments and instructional strategies.
- Demonstrate model lessons with classroom teachers.
- Serve as a resource for professional materials and instructional strategies/materials.
- Present staff development sessions for campus staff.
- Assist administration in identifying campus weaknesses in the science curriculum.
- The science coordinator will assist in the integration of technology in the science laboratory.
- Integrate reading and writing into the K-12 science content area.
- Integrate English language TEKS into the K-12 science frameworks.
- Meet with district curriculum and instruction department on a regular basis and disseminate information to campuses.
- Assist in the development of district science curriculum assessments.
- Assist teachers in disaggregating and analyzing data from the science curriculum assessment program.
- Provide support for family campus science initiatives.
- Participate in science related professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendents of Curriculum.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
