Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Lab Supervisor, prepare and issue materials, supplies, and equipment in support of laboratory instruction; assists faculty with non-instructional matters during laboratory sessions; manage the budget for consumable supplies; plan and execute purchases. Inventory supplies, materials, and equipment; maintain proper organization and storage of all items in stock room and laboratories; coordinate disposal of waste and laboratory safety. Transfer equipment between campuses. Perform minor calibration, maintenance and repair of various types of equipment. Manage instructional computers and software. Assist in the development of new instructional demonstrations. Exposure to hazardous materials and handling heavy loads may be required. This position may be hired into one or more of several different science disciplines.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Setting up and breaking down experiment and demonstrations of considerable difficulty in various laboratories on various campuses.
  • Transport laboratory equipment, supplies and/or other materials between labs and campuses as needed.
  • Assist instructors with assembling, locating, and planning new and revised lab demonstrations for lecture classes.
  • Clean, maintain, and prepare the laboratory work space, equipment and supplies.
  • Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Know the appropriate use of the equipment, facilities and materials that are needed for the students’ work and ensure the items are being used properly.
  • Provide technical and instructional support to the instructors in both a laboratory and classroom setting.
  • Maintain various science equipment, computers and printers; repair broken items or arrange for equipment repair and replacement; order new and replacement equipment and supplies; update software, provide basic computer maintenance and upkeep of computers and printers.
  • Coordinate or provide lab maintenance, safety, and hazard communication on various campuses; sweep and mop facilities and stockrooms, ensure that fire extinguishers, lab hoods, eye washes, and lab showers are code compliant and operational, assist with hazard communication, including updated SDS, review experiments and demonstrations for safety considerations.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory responsibilities for one (1) work-study to include hiring and training.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary coursework in science field or equivalent and two (2) year directly related higher education or commercial science laboratory experience.

Preferences:

  • Airframe and Power Plant Certification or able to receive within 1 year
  • At least 1 year in the related field or education
  • Requires use of Aircraft Mechanic Hand tools and Power Equipment
  • Able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Must be able to maintain live Aircraft and Trainers
  • Able to climb ladders
  • Clean Driving record and able to get Forklift certified.
