Science Teacher - Biology

JOB GOAL TEACHING:To develop in each student an awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress; to motivate each student to acquire knowledge of scientific facts, principles, and skills in scientific methods of problem solving; to discover and develop special talents of students in scientific fields.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

A.Demonstrates currency in the curriculum.

• Demonstrates a working knowledge of the core curriculum in Biology.
• Frames curriculum around key learning standards/concepts in Biology that provide opportunities for reasoning, logic, analysis and synthesis when planning units, lessons, and assessments.
• Keeps current in the various scientific fields and applies that knowledge to the instructional program.
• Contributes to the ongoing evaluation and modification of the curriculum.

B.Conducts effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction

• Effectively plans instruction and assessment in Biology and monitors student's understanding of the curriculum.
• Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate for student learning.

C.Manages the classroom environment and creates an atmosphere that is positive for student learning and involvement in Biology.

D.Delivers instruction in a creative and effective manner.

• The teacher makes learning goals of Biology clear to students and uses appropriate instructional techniques.
• The teacher uses a variety of teaching strategies, including cooperative, peer and project-based learning; audio visual presentations, lecture, discussions and inquiry, practice and application; and the teaching of others.
• The teacher uses questioning techniques appropriate to the study of Biology.
• The teacher evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.

E. Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations in Biology for student achievement.

• Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
• The teacher demonstrates an understanding and appreciation for social and emotional learning, and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.

F. Fulfills all professional responsibilities

• Cooperates in interactions with parents and students and is receptive to their contributions.
• Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of their grade, team, department, building and school district.
• Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning.

G. Completes any other duty or assignments as directed by the Principal or Science Content Coordinator.
