Duties

Mahomet-Seymour Junior High School is seeking a qualified Junior High Science Teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will plan and deliver engaging, standards-based science instruction that supports the academic and developmental needs of junior high students. Instruction should promote critical thinking, inquiry, and student achievement. Teaching assignments may include a combination of life, physical, and/or earth science content appropriate for the junior high level.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement instruction aligned to Illinois Learning Standards for science.
  • Develop engaging, inquiry-based lessons that promote scientific thinking and problem-solving.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
  • Monitor student progress and use assessment data to guide instruction.
  • Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, support staff, and administration.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation.
  • Support district and building initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate middle grades science endorsement.
  • Strong knowledge of junior high science curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

NOTE: Our existing 4-year collective bargaining agreement will expire at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and we will be negotiating a new agreement that will begin with the 2026-2027 school year.
