RE-1 Valley School District is seeking a passionate and student-centered High School Science Teacher to join our secondary instructional team. We are looking for an educator who engages students in scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world application of scientific concepts.

The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity and help students develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills while preparing them for college, careers, and informed citizenship.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $44,000 - $65,853 on Teacher Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

WORK CALENDAR: 167 days

FTE: 1.0 Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)

POSITION SUMMARY: The High School Science Teacher provides engaging, standards-based instruction that promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The teacher supports students in understanding scientific principles and applying knowledge through investigation, experimentation, and analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver instruction aligned to Colorado Academic Standards for Science
  • Teach scientific concepts through inquiry, experimentation, and investigation
  • Facilitate laboratory activities that reinforce scientific principles
  • Integrate data analysis, research skills, and scientific reasoning
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs

Assessment & Data

  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments
  • Analyze student performance data to guide instruction
  • Provide timely feedback on assignments and lab work
  • Maintain accurate records of student grades and progress

Classroom & Laboratory Environment

  • Establish a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment
  • Maintain and enforce laboratory safety procedures
  • Manage and organize laboratory equipment and materials

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with department members and instructional teams
  • Participate in MTSS, IEP, and 504 meetings as appropriate
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain current licensure
  • Participate in professional development
  • Support district and building improvement goals
  • Follow district policies and procedures

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Science, Science Education, or related field preferred and will be given first consideration
  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with appropriate Science endorsement (Additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)
  • Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
  • Knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards for Science
  • Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
  • Experience teaching high school science courses preferred
  • Experience with laboratory-based instruction preferred
  • Ability to teach multiple science disciplines (biology, chemistry, physical science, or environmental science)
  • Experience integrating technology into instruction
  • Bilingual skills preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of high school science content and scientific practices
  • Ability to facilitate laboratory-based learning
  • Skill in differentiating instruction for diverse learners
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills

Working Conditions

  • Classroom setting
  • Occasional evening events (parent conferences, school activities)
  • Exposure to typical laboratory materials and equipment

Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and the Colorado Teacher Evaluation System.
