The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is dedicated to protecting the region's natural resources by maintaining sustainable water quality and ensuring environmental protection for both communities and ecosystems throughout South Florida.

The Office of Water Quality (OWQ) is seeking a highly skilled Technical Editor who possesses a strong background in environmental science, water quality, scientific communication, and scientific technical editing support. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the editing and production of significant District scientific publications. These include the South Florida Environmental Report (SFER), environmental monitoring summaries, quality assurance documentation, regulatory compliance reports, and reports related to the Everglades Settlement Agreement. 

Key Responsibilities
•    Provide technical editing support for reports and publications generated within and outside the OWQ, such as those from the Applied Sciences Bureau and Water Supply Bureau.
•    Oversee the preparation processes for scientific publications to ensure high-quality outputs 
•    Manage document versioning to maintain accuracy and consistency.
•    Coordinate workflows using Teams, SharePoint and MS Planner to support the publication process, and develop reporting using Power BI.
•    Develop and maintain SharePoint Sites to facilitate information sharing and collaboration.
•    Assist with technical meetings coordination as needed.

Collaboration
The Technical Editor will work closely with scientists, engineers, and program managers, collaborating to resolve technical issues and produce superior scientific documentation that meets the District’s standards.
 
This position may be filled at the Scientist 3 level.
External Hiring Range Scientist 4: $64,442 - $80,552
External Hiring Range Scientist 3: $55,696 - $69,620
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Employment Guidelines: 

Scientist 4: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred, in Natural or Physical Sciences with at least four (4) years of substantive technical writing/editing experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression. 
 
Scientist 3: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred, in Natural or Physical Sciences with at least two (2) years of substantive technical writing/editing experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression.

License(s) / Certification(s): 
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District’s response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
