Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Epidemiology, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Scientist I to join their team.

General Responsibilities

  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.

  • To plan, coordinate and conduct research.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement wearable device protocols and oversee data collection processes to ensure data integrity, protocol compliance, and high standards of quality control and assurance for funded research studies within the UAB SCORES Research Group.

  • Oversee data collection, processing, and reduction of movement and sleep behavior data, ensuring quality control and quality assurance across all phases of research workflows.

  • Develop and deliver recurring (e.g., monthly) and ad hoc reports, including quality assurance reporting, data visualizations, and analytic summaries for investigators across ongoing research studies.

  • Analyze and interpret complex movement and sleep behavior datasets using R and SAS, applying hypothesis-driven statistical methods; develop manuscript proposals aligned with study aims and independent research ideas, including formulation of research questions, analytic plans, and statistical approaches, and execute approved analyses.

  • Contribute as a key collaborator on NIH grant applications, including development of analytic plans, methodological input, and supporting preliminary data/analysis.

  • Manage operations of UAB SCORES including coordinating project intake, scheduling consultations, serving as a primary point of contact for investigators, developing project scopes and cost estimates, overseeing data processing and deliverables, and managing billing and invoicing in accordance with institutional guidelines.

  • Manage and coordinate research staff and graduate research assistants (GRAs), including task assignment, training, and oversight of contributions to ensure timely project deliverables.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR M.D. and Master''s degree. OR Master''s degree and four (4) years of related experience OR Bachelor''s degree and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

PhD and 2 years'' experience in a health-related field or MS or MSPH in health-related field and 4 years'' experience is preferred
