/ Purpose & Scope

This is a biologist position developing anti-cancer drugs, including antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), multi-specific antibodies or engineered small molecules in collaboration with discovery and program teams. Disease Modeling and Mechanism in Disease Biology & Pharmacology group is at the forefront of Astellas Oncology Research validating novel therapeutic concepts and modalities leveraging cutting-edge science and assay technologies. The team is employing advanced assay systems that recapitulate pathophysiological conditions to fill the gaps in our understanding of MoA and efficacy of our pipeline utilizing platforms developed in-house and in collaboration with external partners. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented biologist to join our mission and help drive our dynamic research forward.

/ Essential Job Responsibilities

Responsible for design, execution, and analysis of non-clinical biological studies necessary to validate novel therapeutic concepts and modalities of anti-cancer drugs leveraging cutting-edge science and assay technologies independently.

Work in a team-oriented laboratory environment under the guidance of the manager and team leader, within cross-functional research teams (program team, pharmacokinetics, safety, CMC, etc.) and other internal/external collaborators/stakeholders

Remains at the forefront of scientific advancement in clinical cancer pathophysiology and assay development (literature, scientific conference, etc.).

Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols/SOPs, and presentations in English. Regularly presents findings in English at group meetings and to upper management to support program-level, data-driven decisions.

Supports cross-functional knowledge sharing and collaborate on research projects.

Collaborates across teams within Disease Biology & Pharmacology group, and other teams within Oncology Research to advance development of Astellas programs and assets

May directly manage of one or more research associates to support assay development and analysis

Performs other duties as assigned or special projects as needed

/ Specific Physical or Environmental Requirements

• This position is based in Tsukuba Research Center and will require on-site work.

/ Qualifications

/ Required

PhD with 3+ years or MS with 5+ years of relevant experience in cancer biology research

Deep expertise in cancer biology

Strong scientific communication skills in written and spoken language

Demonstrated ability to critically analyse, interpret, and present scientific results

Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills with scientific attention to detail

Ability to effectively collaborate with other teams

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent work planning, organization and record keeping

Strong work ethic with a passion for working in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment

/ Preferred

Experience with microphysiological system (MPS) development

Experience with biological (molecular/cellular) assessment of malignant cells as well as non-malignant cells including immune cells.

Prior industry experience

Background in immunology

Experience driving scientific innovation
