Job Summary
The Scientist II will independently conduct routine in vivo studies and support the development and validation of rodent models for cardiometabolic and cardio-renal-metabolic research. The successful candidate will apply scientific principles to experimental design, rodent dosing, health monitoring, sample collection, data analysis, and interpretation of study results.
This position requires strong hands-on laboratory skills, scientific problem-solving ability, attention to data integrity, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative drug discovery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently initiate and complete routine in vivo rodent studies with minimal supervision.
- Interpret experimental results and recommend appropriate follow-up studies.
- Support development and validation of rodent models for cardiometabolic diseases.
- Perform routine rodent dosing using IV, IP, PO, SC, and IM routes.
- Conduct animal health monitoring and biological sample collection.
- Perform literature searches and apply information from published scientific protocols.
- Identify and implement new technologies and process improvements supporting research.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Contribute to study protocols, procedures, technical reports, and scientific documentation.
- Maintain a high level of data integrity, scientific rigor, and ethical standards.
- Communicate research findings effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional scientific teams.
- Participate in weekend/holiday rotations as required by the research team.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree with 2–3 years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in a related scientific discipline.
- Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO experience is highly desirable.
- PhD candidates are not applicable for this position.
- Hands-on in vivo research experience using rodent models.
- Experience with routine rodent dosing routes including:
- Intravenous (IV)
- Intraperitoneal (IP)
- Oral (PO)
- Subcutaneous (SC)
- Intramuscular (IM)
- Experience with animal health monitoring and sample collection.
- Experience working within IACUC governance and compliance requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new techniques and technologies quickly.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with rodent models of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
- Experience in cardiometabolic, cardio-renal, or metabolic disease research.
- Experience supporting drug discovery and development programs.
- Experience incorporating new technologies into preclinical research.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism for data analysis.
- Strong scientific writing and technical reporting skills.
