Benefits Questions -----------------

Under immediate supervision, assists with Adult Slow-Pitch and Girls Fast-Pitch Softball leagues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -------------------

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.

  • Assists with setup and preparation of softball leagues.
  • Keeps an accurate official score book.
  • Operates a time clock/score board.
  • Ensures all possible safety measures are observed.
  • Communicates and enforces facility and league rules.
  • Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems.
  • Reports any issues and concerns to supervisor.
  • Assists the Site Supervisor with emergency situations that may arise.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Complies with City and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS ----------------

Education/Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Previous softball experience is preferred, but not required.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the City of Thornton and the department.
  • Knowledge of basketball and softball rules.
  • Skill in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) activities.
  • Skill in keeping an accurate score book.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with the public.
  • Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
  • Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity, and be able to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
  • The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.
  • For Softball Program: Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, sun, rain, wind).

TESTING PROCEDURES -------------------

Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job-related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
