Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) CVOR

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with specialized CVOR experience to join our surgical team. In this role, you will provide safe, high-quality patient care by maintaining a sterile environment, preparing surgical equipment, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team. You will act in a vital support role during complex cardiovascular procedures, ensuring adherence to established professional and hospital standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surgical Support & Asepsis: Create and maintain a sterile field (asepsis). Perform expert scrubbing duties, anticipate surgeon needs, and track/account for all equipment, instruments, and supplies used during the procedure.

  • Patient Care Coordination: Assist Registered Nurses in planning patient care and collaborate effectively with the broader healthcare team. Please note: This role acts as support during the procedure and does not act as a formal surgical assistant.

  • Environment & Equipment Care: Maintain cleanliness within the unit. Properly clean, care for, and handle specialized surgical equipment before, during, and after cases.

  • Clinical Mentorship: Act as a clinical preceptor for scrubbing duties, following the orientation outline and collaborating with the Patient Care Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialist.

  • Communication & Teamwork: Maintain adaptable, professional, and clear communication with peers, physicians, patients, and visitors to consistently meet Customer Service Quality Standards.

Medication Restriction Notice: This position has limited access to Medication Rooms. Medications should not be handled at any time. Any medication-related questions must be directed to your supervisor or the unit charge nurse.

Position Requirements

Experience & Certifications (Strictly Required)

  • Must have direct CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) experience.

  • NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED, PLUS one of the following:

    • Option 1: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist educational program.

    • Option 2: Completion of an approved U.S. Military Surgical Technology training program (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard).

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and common safety hazards/precautions to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced, high-stress clinical environment.

  • Clear communication and excellent interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Physical Stamina: Requires frequent standing for prolonged periods, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, and constant reaching/twisting.

  • Lifting Demands: Frequent lifting, moving, or positioning of patients. Ability to intermittently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Clinical Environment: Regular exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potentially infectious materials common to a healthcare setting.

  • Schedule: Operating under stressful conditions and tight deadlines. Ability to work irregular hours, take call, and work weekends or holidays based on departmental needs. Moderate to high noise levels in the work area.
