Summary
The student tutor conducts one-on-one or small group tutorial sessions in the content area of psychology, specifically for PSY 335 and PSY 436 courses. The student tutor tutors a diverse population of undergraduate students in the Content-Area Tutoring Center. The peer tutor works in the Center in-person a minimum of 10 hours per week, Mondays through Fridays.
Essential Functions
Identifies students' content-area skills needs.
Differentiates strategies and instructional materials to meet individual students' needs.
Assists student in understanding the material while fostering student autonomy.
Engages students in tutoring sessions by utilizing active learning strategies.
Motivates students by being an active listener.
Provides positive feedback and makes recommendations for further study or practice.
Respects students' diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives.
Using the processes and systems established within the Content-Area Tutoring Center to document student progress.
Entering all data in a timely fashion as specified by the Glenn Hubert Learning Center's Manager.
Communicating with the Glenn Hubert Learning Center's Manager regarding students with challenging or unique situations and documenting record details of such situations through the specified means within the Content-Area Tutoring Center.
Maintains currency in the content area by reviewing the course syllabi and relevant course materials.
Actively participates in learning community meetings.
Participates in mandatory training sessions throughout the semester.
Maintains currency with technological resources for instructional and recordkeeping purposes.
Monitors and makes arrangements for replenishment of consumable materials used in the tutoring environment.
Develops and facilitates workshop/short videos related to PSY 335 and PSY 436 classes.
Qualifications/Requirements
Must work a minimum of 10 hours per week consistently.
Must be able to work for at least two semesters consecutively.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Must be punctual, organized, professional, and courteous.
