    Description of Work

    The SE&R Field Engineer (Engineer I) is a member of the SE&R Field Services team and provides hands-on field services and technical support for the Department of Adult Correction's SE&R programs at facilities and institutions statewide.

    SE&R Program areas include:
    • Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS)
    • Water Management Systems (WMS)
    • Lighting systems and controls
    • Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
    • Electric vehicle (EV) charging systems
    • Other equipment and technologies designated as SE&R responsibilities.

    Work includes, but is not limited to, the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and technical support of SE&R systems and equipment. Duties may include system startup and testing, equipment and device installation, related electrical and controls work, system diagnostics, corrective repairs, and verification of proper system operation.

    The position provides field support to SE&R Program Managers, Regional and Institutional Maintenance personnel and works with contractors, vendors, and other technical personnel as necessary to support the implementation, operation, and maintenance of SE&R systems. The position also completes required work orders, service documentation, and purchasing documentation associated with assigned field activities.

    Key Duties Include

    •Working knowledge of electronic, electrical, controls, and instrumentation principles, devices, and systems associated with building automation, water management, lighting controls, solar photovoltaic systems, electric vehicle charging systems, and other SE&R technologies.
    •Working knowledge of complex integrated systems, with the ability to analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair system and equipment problems.
    •Working knowledge of Ethernet networking, communications, and connectivity principles as they apply to building automation, monitoring, metering, and other SE&R systems.
    •Ability to install, commission, test, maintain, and troubleshoot SE&R systems and associated field devices and equipment.
    •Demonstrated ability to interpret technical documentation, wiring diagrams, system drawings, and equipment specifications.
    •Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Work Location and Schedule

    This positions duty station is the DECM-Maintenance Operations complex in Raleigh, NC but requires daily travel to assigned Department of Adult Correction facilities and institutions statewide to perform field service work. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday however, overnight travel may be required based on operational needs. The position may also be subject to emergency call-back outside of normal working hours.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

    Salary Grade Range: $41,206.00-$72,113.00 

    Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

    • Experience installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining building automation and control systems (BAS/BMS).

    • Experience with Ethernet networking and communication systems associated with building automation, controls, metering, and monitoring systems.

    • Experience interpreting electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and technical documentation.

    • Experience working independently in a field-service environment involving multiple facilities and locations.

    About the Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM)

    The Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) coordinates all North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) construction and renovation efforts, working closely with the State Construction Office to bring projects to life. We represent the department on key property and building matters while keeping facilities running smoothly through expert support for mechanical, electrical, kitchen, and other essential systems. With a dedicated team specializing in design, project management, and sustainability, DECM helps ensure our facilities stay safe, efficient, and ready to serve.

    This position will be assigned a State-owned vehicle for business use only. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.  The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.
