Seafood Associate

Summary

The Boys Farmers Market is looking to add a Seafood Associate to our amazing team. Our Seafood Associates are responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining fresh seafood displays, preparing and packaging seafood products, and ensuring compliance with all food safety and sanitation standards. 

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and provide knowledgeable assistance regarding seafood products.
• Answer questions about seafood varieties, preparation methods, and cooking recommendations.
• Fulfill customer orders accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and attractive seafood display area.
• Receive, inspect, and stock fresh and frozen seafood products.
• Rotate inventory using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) procedures.
• Prepare, weigh, label, package, and price seafood products.
• Monitor product quality, freshness, and appearance.
• Remove damaged, expired, or unsellable products from displays.
• Follow all food safety regulations, sanitation procedures, and company policies.
• Maintain proper temperature controls for seafood storage, preparation, and display.
• Prevent cross-contamination by following approved handling procedures.
• Clean and sanitize work surfaces, equipment, utensils, and display cases.
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling food and cleaning chemicals.
• Complete food safety and sanitation training as required.
• Report food safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or health hazards immediately.
• Assist with inventory counts and ordering processes.
• Operate scales, wrapping equipment, knives, and seafood preparation tools safely.
• Support department goals for sales, shrink reduction, and customer satisfaction.
• Assist in maintaining department compliance during food safety inspections.
  

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous retail, grocery, seafood, food service, or customer service experience preferred.
• Food Handler Certification preferred
• Understanding of seafood products and handling procedures preferred.
• Ability to follow food safety guidelines and sanitation standards.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  

Additional Requirements

To safely perform the essential functions of this position and meet food safety standards, associates must be able to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8 hours per shift.
• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
• Bend, stoop, kneel, squat, reach, and twist throughout the workday.
• Use hands continuously for cutting, packaging, weighing, and handling seafood products.
• Safely operate knives, seafood preparation equipment, and cleaning tools.
• Work in refrigerated environments and around ice, water, and wet surfaces.
• Tolerate exposure to seafood odors, cleaning chemicals, and temperature variations.
• Maintain sufficient visual acuity to identify product quality, labels, expiration dates, and food safety concerns.
• Maintain reliable attendance and work flexible schedules, including weekends.
