New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.
Job Summary
Typical hourly rate starts at $20.59 for pool lifeguards and $21.00 for beach lifeguards and will go up based on experience and level placed. Eligible for a hiring bonus up to $250, paid in two installments, dependent on hours worked by the seasonal end date.
Hiring Bonus and Referral Bonus are valid until July 15, 2026. All offers made after July 15, 2026, will not by eligible for the bonus.
The City of Bellevue is currently seeking multiple Beach and Pool Lifeguards to work at the Bellevue Aquatic Center and City of Bellevue Beach Parks. These positions offer flexible hours in a fun work environment with the chance to provide a positive impact in many peoples' lives. The City of Bellevue focuses on a team-oriented approach to providing a safe and enjoyable Aquatic experience.
We are hiring Head Lifeguards, Senior Lifeguards and Lifeguards for all locations. This is a seasonal position with the opportunity to continue after the summer season.
Lifeguards: $20.59 - $22.63 Hourly
Beach Lifeguard: $21.00 - $22.63 Hourly
Senior Lifeguard: $22.65 - $25.00 Hourly
Head Lifeguard: $24.91 - $27.50 Hourly
Waiving Lifeguard Certification Course Fees
Lifeguards new to the City of Bellevue or returning lifeguards are eligible to receive a hiring bonus of up to $250
Note, if the employee continues past the end of the season, September 15, they will receive their final hiring bonus payment based on the hours completed by end of day September 15. Payment will be received on the following paycheck. The hiring bonus is available to new and returning hires through July 15, 2026.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Head Lifeguard
Responsibilities include providing lifeguard staff supervision, patron surveillance, enforcing beach park rules and regulations, administering staff training, taking a lead role in any emergency response situation, and performing general park maintenance duties.
Senior Lifeguard
Responsibilities include providing on-site supervision of lifeguard staff, enforcing beach park rules and regulations, providing patron surveillance and emergency response services, assisting in staff training, and performing general park maintenance duties.
Lifeguard/Beach lifeguard
Responsibilities include providing patron surveillance and emergency response services. The positions may also include providing swim instruction in both a group and private lesson format to various age groups.
Qualifications
Head Lifeguards
Must be at least 18 years old. Must have at least 2 years of lifeguarding experience. Experience supervising lifeguarding staff preferred. Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
Senior Lifeguard
Must be at least 17 years old. Must have at least 1 year of experience. Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
Lifeguard
Must be 15 years old for Pool Lifeguard/Swim Instructor. Must be 16 years old for Beach Lifeguard. Must have and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
Not Certified? Take our Lifeguard Training Class: The Bellevue Aquatic Center is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification course. Program offers certification in lifeguard training, first aid, and CPR for the professional rescuer. Gain skills required to be a lifeguard. Classes will all be blended learning style with the online content sent out one week in advance to be completed before the test portion of the class.
