Description

The Facility Services Division is seeking a Seasonal Custodial Maintenance Worker to work in the Facility Services Division in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This position is responsible for the cleaning, upkeep, and daily operations of the Facility Services Division. This position performs routine custodial and light maintenance duties to ensure our facility is clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming for staff and visitors. This is a year-round seasonal position working 4 days per week.

Examples of Important Duties

• Perform routine custodial cleaning of the various buildings at our Randall Farm location including restrooms, offices, conference rooms, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop vacuum, dust, and sanitize floors, surfaces, and fixtures.
• Clean, deodorize, and disinfect sinks, toilets, urinals, and restrooms.
• Strip, wax, buff, and recondition wood, tiles, and vinyl floors, as required.
• Replace paper products, soap, and other restroom and facility supplies.
• Collect trash and recycling and properly dispose of waste.
• Safely and properly use and store cleaning chemicals, supplies, tools, and equipment.
• Operate custodial equipment such as floor buffers, vacuums, and mops.
• Perform minor building repairs and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Assist with set-up and breakdown of equipment for meetings, programs, and special events held on location.
• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or damaged equipment to supervisors.
• Interact courteously and professionally with visitors and staff.
• Follow all safety procedures, departmental policies, and cleaning protocols.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred

• Previous custodial, janitorial, or general maintenance experience
• Familiarity with cleaning chemical and custodial equipment
• Experience with operating floor buffers, vacuums, and basic cleaning machinery

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods and safety practices
• Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and custodial equipment
• Ability to lift, bend, stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
• Effective communication and customer service skills

Supplemental Information

May be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

Work hours

• Work hours will be 6:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. 4 days per week.

Working Conditions/Environment

• Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, noise, dirt, and physical activity, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans

You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
