The DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC FACILITIES is now accepting applications for all Seasonal positions for the 2026 Spring Season. Applicants will be hired on a seasonal/part-time basis with the potential of permanent employment. Seasonal employees may be required to work weekends and holidays. RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Beach Lifeguard Operations Supervisor The Beach Lifeguard Operations Supervisor will actively manage the daily operations of Seaside and Pleasure Beach areas, oversee a team of supervisors, captains, and lifeguards to ensure beach safety. High-quality, proactive, and reactive ocean rescue skills, preventative actions, and customer service functions are utilized. The Beach Lifeguard Operations Supervisor will be working alongside the Recreation Superintendent to coordinate resource allocations, ensure staffing requirements are met, and to coordinate personnel. The Beach Lifeguard Operations Supervisor will answer citizens questions and concerns, as well as to provide patient care services according to the scope of the American Red Cross. Responsible at each daily shift to maintain all vehicles. Responsible for conducting weekly water safety measures for all lifeguards.

Qualifications:

Lifeguards Lifeguards are required to cover the entire scope to ensure the safety of the public at Seaside Park and Pleasure Beach. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Qualifications:

  • Current valid lifeguard CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Ability to evaluate water and weather conditions to assure safety for all constituents.
  • Knowledge of park and beach rules and regulations.
  • Ability to participate in ongoing weekly emergency waterfront training and buoy swims.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds.
  • Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Lifeguard Captains Lifeguard Captains are required to supervise their designated lifeguard groups. Prepares weekly schedules for their designated shifts. They ensure the safety of the public at Seaside Park and Pleasure Beach.

Qualifications:

  • Current valid lifeguard CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Ability to evaluate water and weather conditions to assure safety for all constituents.
  • Knowledge of park and beach rules and regulations.
  • Ability to participate in ongoing weekly emergency waterfront training and buoy swims.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds.

Lifeguard Supervisors Lifeguard Supervisors are required to ensure the safety of the public at Seaside Park and Pleasure Beach and supervise the lifeguard captains and lifeguards. Supervisors coordinate lifeguard shifts, facilitate training activities, and maintain medical first aid supplies. Weekly timesheets are also collected and reviewed by the lifeguard supervisors.

  • Current valid lifeguard CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Ability to evaluate water and weather conditions to assure safety for all constituents.
  • Knowledge of park and beach rules and regulations.
  • Ability to facilitate and participate in weekly emergency waterfront training and buoy swims.

Park Checkpoint Supervisors Park Checkpoint Supervisors will collect revenue fees for park day passes at Seaside Park and Beardsley Park and to assist with facilitating the seven (7) day-a-week operation.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age.
  • Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Cashier or customer service experience preferred.
  • Applicants must have previous checkpoint experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Seasonal Employment Dates: 05/23/2026 - 09/07/2026 Hours Per Week: 40 Hourly Rate: $19.00

Park Checkpoint Attendants Park Checkpoint Attendants will collect revenue fees and issue day passes at Seaside and Beardsley Park. Additionally, they will assist with the day-to-day operation at Pleasure Beach. The attendant will monitor the safety and organization of the checkpoint areas, answer general questions from park visitors, and have knowledge of park rules and regulations.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age.

  • Cashier or customer service experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Camp Site Directors Under the direction of the recreation staff, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of planning daily activities and scheduling for staff and participants. The Summer Camp Director contributes to the well-being of our community by providing a fun, safe, and supportive experience for campers. The Summer Camp Director helps lead summer camp education for children ages 5-10 years old. The Camp Director is the primary staff member in charge of logistics, safety, and camp materials.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in recreation management, outdoor education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a municipal recreation department or similar organization.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with children, parents, and staff members.
  • Knowledge of outdoor safety and emergency procedures.
  • Experience in program planning and management.
  • Familiarity with local regulations and guidelines for operating a campsite.
  • Ability to develop and implement a budget for camp programs.
  • Skills in team building and leadership development.

Camp Site Coordinators Camp Site Coordinators will keep daily records of camper attendance as well as staffing assigned to their age group while reporting to the Camp Supervisor and other Recreation Staff. Acts as a delegate for issuing and interpreting general operating policies as well as ensuring safe best practices and all camp counselors adhere to rules and regulations. Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinators, this person supervises all staff at Summer Day Camps. Each Site Coordinator manages Camp Groups ages 5 - 10. Parents and Guardians can find out the progress of their camper(s) at the time of drop-off and dismissal by discussing the daily schedule with the Site Coordinators. Weekly timesheets are also collected and reviewed by campsite coordinators and distributed to the Camp Supervisor and Recreation Staff.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in supervising and working with children.
  • Ability to plan and lead activities for large groups of children.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Camp Counselors Camp Counselors will assist Site Coordinators with planning arts and crafts activities, sports games, events, competitions, reading and writing initiatives, and other daily activities. Camp Counselor duties include handling sign-in and sign-out sheets, filling out accident reports when first aid is needed, and interacting with and engaging campers throughout the day. They are assigned to supervise campers when attending field trips under the direction of the Site Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Physical ability to participate in outdoor activities with campers.

ROADWAY, PARKS & BUILDING MAINTENANCE

CDL Drivers/Maintainers CDL Drivers/Maintainers perform both heavy and light semi-skilled physical labor of more than ordinary difficulty and responsibility, assisting in skilled tasks and garage work involving (un)mounting automobile, van, truck, and heavy equipment tires. Ability to perform physical labor and operate vans, pick-up trucks, tractors, and small rack bodies. Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks without detailed supervision. Some knowledge of tire strengths and fabrics.

Qualifications:

  • The applicant must be 18 years of age.
  • One years experience in activities involving semi-skilled manual tasks and in service station work.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of pertinent tools and equipment. Ability to operate vans, pick-up trucks, tractors, and small rack bodies.
  • Commercial Drivers License, with air brake component for the State of Connecticut required.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides a demonstrated potential for performing the duties of the position.

Laborers Laborers work primarily in Roadway, Sanitation, Recycling, Transfer Station, Parks, and Beaches. Work may include daily maintenance of roads, street cleaning, landscaping, etc. Routine and unskilled or limited work of a semi-skilled nature in both cleaning and servicing motor vehicles and in guarding buildings, grounds, and facilities against trespassing, theft, and fire.

Qualifications:

  • The applicant must be 18 years of age.
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License.
  • Ability to use landscaping equipment including weed whacker and lawnmower.
