About The Adjutant Generals Office:

The Adjutant General's Office (AGO) provides a dynamic workplace while serving the Indiana National Guard at its various facilities throughout the state. Role Overview:

Performs cleaning, general maintenance, and minor repairs to building(s), equipment and grounds at the National Guard Armory located in Connersville, Indiana. Incumbent is responsible for the entire facility and grounds excluding those areas of military responsibility such as: kitchens (except when included in a rental agreement), OMS areas, military supply rooms, vehicle compounds, POL building and other like areas.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position is $13.00 - $17.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, limited to working 180 calendar days.

A Day in the Life:

  • Performs general cleaning duties including, but not limited to dusting, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing floors; vacuuming carpets and upholstery; emptying non-hazardous and recyclable waste containers; washing walls, windows, and mirrors; sanitizing and cleaning restrooms;
  • Performs grounds maintenance work including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, fertilizing, leaf removal, trash pick-up, snow and ice removal, and minor repair of parking areas, roads and walks;
  • Performs preventive maintenance on air-conditioning units, heating systems, water heaters, plumbing, electrical, etc.
  • Maintains safe armory conditions by repairing and replacing broken doors, latches, locks, window glass, etc.;
  • Repairs and/or replaces leaky faucets and toilets, plugged drains, burned out light bulbs, broken electrical switches, outlets and light fixtures; minor repairs to furniture;
  • Inspects and maintains fire extinguishers IAW National Fire Protection Association (NFPA);
  • Distributes and restocks paper towel and bathroom tissue dispensers;
  • Paints walls, ceilings, door trim, window casings, not routinely requiring scaffolding;
  • Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair of equipment such as sweepers, buffers, lawn care equipment, etc.;
  • Orders/stocks cleaning supplies as needed and authorized by purchasing directives;
  • Performs related duties such as transporting materials and equipment needed for the maintenance and upkeep of the armory/facility and maintaining stock rooms;
  • Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on all hazardous substances and chemicals used in the work place;
  • Be familiar with the Fire Evacuation Plan and the location and proper use of fire extinguishers;
  • Overtime is mandatory to provide clean-up and security for Armory Rentals.

What Youll Need for Success:

  • High School Diploma or HSE
  • One (1) year full-time experience in building or maintenance trades. Substitution: One (1) semester or one (1) quarter of a recognized vocational training program in building or maintenance trades may sub for all of the required experience. (proof must accompany application.) Substitution: Six (6) months as a state maintenance repair person 4 (4ia4) may substitute for all of the required experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in grounds and building maintenance;
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use skills in the trades of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating system and air conditioning;
  • General knowledge and understanding of various occupational health and safety rules and regulations;
  • Ability to use and safely operate a variety of equipment such as powered floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, push and/or powered riding mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers, hand and power tools, and similar types of equipment used in the maintenance of buildings and grounds;
  • Ability to follow instructions regarding proper use and care of powered equipment;
  • Ability to follow instructions concerning safety precautions and the proper use, storage and disposal of hazardous substances and chemicals used in the work place;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and vendors in a tactful and courteous manner;
  • Ability to complete necessary reports and purchase order forms;
  • Ability to effectively plan work schedule and work independently;
  • Must have a valid Indiana Driver's License.
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
