Seasonal Natural Resources Pre-Professional Deer Management

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is seeking individuals for the Seasonal Natural Resources Pre-Professional Deer Management position to join our Natural Resources team. This position will assist with the ongoing white-tailed deer management program with the Forest Preserve of DuPage County.

Compensation

Rate of pay $19.00-$20.00 per hour, dependent on experience.

About the Role

We are looking for individuals to assist in the ongoing white-tailed deer management project within DuPage County, contributing to effective population control measures. Typical duties include performing field dressing procedures on lethally removed deer, gathering tissue samples, ensuring safe and responsible handling of harvested animals, and operating trucks and/or ATVs as part of fieldwork. The position requires working at nighttime primarily outdoors in all weather conditions during late fall and winter. Winter field gear is available, but individuals will need to dress for the weather. A safety boot and prescription safety glasses allowance is available.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, overnight 6:00 pm to 4:00 am, with some weekend work. Work occurs October 2026 - February 2027. The first six days will be day shifts from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday - Friday.

Key Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
• Valid Driver''s License in good standing.
• Previous experience with wildlife and natural resource management is preferred.
• Proficiency in handing knives used in field dressing and knowledge of safe operating practices.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow intricate instructions with precision and accuracy.
