About Us:

Eight million Americans are one paycheck away from becoming homeless. In Washtenaw County, 5000 people are experiencing homelessness. The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County (SAWC) was established in 1982 and is the primary provider of services and emergency shelter for individuals in Washtenaw County. SAWC is housed at the Robert J. Delonis Center in downtown Ann Arbor. SAWC works with a diverse range of people struggling with homelessness, including first-time homelessness, veterans, domestic violence survivors, and people battling substance abuse and/or mental health issues. Services are offered through our core programs: Residential Emergency Shelter, Non-Residential Shelter, Shelter Diversion, Critical-Time Intervention, and Warming Shelter. The SAWC serves almost 1500 people annually.

Seasonal Position Disclaimer/ Key Information

· All Seasonal positions are scheduled to begin November 9th and set to conclude on April 12th. This timeline could possibly be extended based on weather conditions and county guidance.

· You may request a schedule that consists of multiple shifts at various sites, not to exceed 40 hours per week.

· Overtime will only be granted during instances of extreme staffing needs.

Operations Specialist Position Profile:

This position serves as an active member of the Shelter Operations Team and is responsible for the smooth operation of the shelter floors during their assigned shift. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety of all guests and performing duties in a manner consistent with the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County's overall mission. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. The hourly rate for this position is currently $19.92/hr. We have availability in day, afternoon, and midnight shifts.

Additional Shift Breakdown:

Warming Center (Delonis/Ann-Arbor):

· Prime/Afternoon shift will be 4:00 pm – 12:30 am.

· Daytime shift will be 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

· Warming Center Prime Support shift will be 5:00 pm – 12:00 am.

· Midnights shift will be 12:00 am – 8:30 am.

· These shifts will be located in Ann Arbor, MI.

· This role would need to start training in early October and begin working on November 9th

Off-Site shifts:

· Are required to have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

· Be willing to drive company vehicles as needed to support warming center operations at multiple sites.

· Prime is the afternoon shift, and Mids is the midnight shift. (5:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. for Prime & 12 am-8:30 am for Mids.)

· These shifts will be located in Ypsilanti, MI.

· This role would need to start training in early October and begin working on November 9th

Off-Site Daytime Operations Specialist Information:

· The planned shift for this role will be M-Thurs 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.

· This shift will operate out of St. Luke’s church in Ypsilanti, MI.

· This role would need to start training in mid-September and begin working on October 11th.

RAAP Operations Specialist Information:

· The shift for this role will have daytime (8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.), afternoon (4:00 p.m.-12:30 a.m.), and midnight (12:00 p.m.-8:30 a.m.) shifts.

· This shift will be located in Ypsilanti, MI.

Qualifications:

• Associate's degree, professional certification, BS or BA in Social Work or one to two years of experience in the human service field
• Knowledge of housing instability, mental health, substance use disorders, and poverty issues is helpful

Winter Intake SpecialistPosition Profile:

The Winter Intake Specialist completes intakes for the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County’s (SAWC) winter programs in the evening, about 20-25 hours each week. As clients enter the shelter for the first time, the specialist will complete an intake in the Homeless Management and Information System (HMIS). The Winter Intake Specialist is a seasonal position through mid-April to support winter programs and to conduct an HMIS assessment with each individual accessing shelter. Hourly pay is $20.15. 6 pm to 11 pm, 3 to 4 days a week is preferred, but can arrange an alternative evening schedule upon hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Adhere to the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Code of Ethics.
• Commitment to SAWC’s mission of ending homelessness.
• Be familiar with and implement SAWC policies and procedures.
• Ensure winter program participants are referred by coordinated entry, also known as the Housing Access of Washtenaw County (HAWC).
• Monitor, track, and communicate to staff the program participants who have yet to receive a coordinated entry referral and winter program assessment using a Master List.
• Aid in completion and coordination of client intakes/assessments using HMIS.
• Document various client information and activities in HMIS and staff notes professionally and appropriately.
• Assess client’s immediate needs and connect to appropriate shelter services and external resources.
• Be willing to travel to offsite shelter locations when needed to complete intakes with additional clients.
• Be willing to complete intakes in person at the Delonis Center.
• Support with data reports and monitoring needs for winter programs.

Qualifications:

· Associate's degree, professional certification, BS or BA in Social Work, or one to two years of experience in the human service field

Health and Safety

The Shelter Association is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our clients and staff. This is especially imperative given that this role requires in-person work with a vulnerable population. To do this, we are partnered with our local Public Health department and have enacted significant health and safety measures including:

• Communicable contagions must be responded to in accordance with CDC/Public Health guidance
• Utilize and follow Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training with the supplies provided
• Follow onsite cleaning protocols for hazards and spills
• Coordination with local hospital systems and Public Health
