General Description
The Orange County Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks & Recreation has an opening for two Seasonal Recreation Program Assistants. The Recreation Program Assistant position is a seasonal position with the Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation. Normal work hours may include weekday evenings 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and weekends 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. On average this position receives 15 hours per week annually. The position will assist the implementation of youth and adult athletic league, general recreation programs, summer camps, and special events. In addition, this position monitors rentals within recreation facilities that include: soccer fields, basketball courts, multipurpose rooms, and baseball fields.
The position is under the general supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor, and is responsible for enforcing equally all Recreation Division policies and procedures and/or general facility or park rules.
Examples of Essential Functions
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Assist with the implementation of youth and adult athletic leagues, general recreation and athletic instructional programs, special events, and summer camps
Ensures activity areas are set up and broken down before and after recreation and athletic programs, activities, and special events;
Maintains accurate records by way of scorebooks and/or score clocks for basketball, volleyball, football, softball, and soccer;
Applies and conveys league rules for soccer, softball, basketball, football, and volleyball; instructs Start Smart Programs in baseball and basketball for 3-5 year old children and their parents;
Distributes team equipment, uniforms, and trophies; and ensures rooms, facilities, and facility exteriors are left neat and orderly after activities.
Provides light janitorial assistance at all recreation facilities that may include: mopping, sweeping, restroom cleaning, trash removal, etc.
Full Performance of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Prior education and/or practical experience in a recreation setting.
Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds.
Must possess the ability to utilize clear and concise language skills, follow written and verbal instructions, and provide energetic instruction.
Must be able to arrive on time for work and notify the appropriate individual in advance if unable to work.
Successful applicant should possess the ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession.
Experience in planning, organizing, initiating and monitoring of recreation activities preferred.
Must pass an SBI background check.
