The State is accepting online applications for available Seasonal Research Assistant (Fish & Wildlife) positions.
Illustrative Examples of Work Performed:
Within the DEM Division of Marine Fisheries, a Student Research Assistant may assist in management programs and research studies to promote sound marine species conservation and management. Individuals in this position may be required to perform a wide variety of tasks for monitoring all aspects of marine fish and invertebrate populations, which may include but are not limited to:
• Professional biological field work (e.g., surveys aboard marine vessels) • Laboratory work • Analyzing and interpreting biological data • Research gear preparation and maintenance
Within the DEM Division of Fish and Wildlife, a Student Researcher may assist in management programs and research studies to promote sound fish and wildlife conservation, professional biological field and laboratory work including procedures on a variety of live and dead animals and their parts, fish hatchery work and environmental education.
Required Qualifications for Appointment:
A thorough working knowledge of common computer software; GIS and/or database software experience desirable. These positions request a recent degree or current enrollment in college courses in marine fisheries, marine biology, marine science, environmental science, oceanography, a closely related field, or equivalent experience; a valid drivers license; ability to withstand working days in the field and on vessels in varying degrees of weather conditions; and a commitment to a 35-hour work week with some allowance for scheduled work hours.
