The NFL's Next Gen Stats team is seeking an experienced research analyst to help develop storylines using Next Gen Stats data to help support various platforms across the NFL, including NFL Network, NFL.com, NFL+ along with integrating Next Gen Stats data into live game telecasts with our broadcast partners. Next Gen Stats Research Analysts will work closely with various teams throughout the organization including Next Gen Stats Product and Engineering and various production groups. The ideal candidate will have a background in research, statistics and/or analytics while being an avid football fan with extensive knowledge of the players and game.  Candidates must be self-motivated, and work well under tight deadlines. 

Responsibilities

  • Leader in development of storylines based on own research within the Next Gen Stats dataset
  • Deliver weekly game preview packets to broadcasters breaking down matchups and highlight key team tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Collaborate with NFL owned and operated and third-party broadcast partners to provide them with engaging Next Gen Stats narratives and supporting data
  • Responsible for developing ideas for various forms of content for studio production shows and help see that the ideas are executed as graphics, segments, pieces and more.
  • Develop original storylines and datapoints that provide statistical analysis of events, news stories and topical issues.
  • Maintain and continue to improve Next Gen Stats research dashboards
  • Recognize and anticipate league and team trends, applying appropriate statistics to create content for various platforms including social media
  • Initiate development in football analytics using Next Gen Stats
  • Assists in training for new seasonal Next Gen Stats Research Analyst staff
  • Recommends changes to enhance current research methods and standards
  • Ensure accuracy of data before distribution 

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years professional experience working with statistics or covering or analyzing sports events and news
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Extensive football knowledge required
  • Comfortable working with large sets of data
  • Coding skills not mandatory, but encouraged
  • Must be able to communicate information accurately
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and programs
  • Must be able to adhere to strict deadlines and react to breaking news
  • Strong grammar skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Qualifications

  • Previous work experience working for or covering the NFL
  • Proven track record of success working with high profile broadcasters
  • Experience building analysis using football statistics
  • Proficient writing complex queries using SQL
  • Proficient in Python and/or R for statistical analysis
  • Experience using BI tools such as Tableau or Quicksight

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • Minimum 40 hours a week
  • May work overtime as needed (including Holidays)
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays (specifically Sundays in-season)
  • Seasonal employment up to 7 months
