The Dakota County Transportation Department is seeking one motivated individual to fill a full-time seasonal maintenance position. The position involves operating trucks of all sizes to perform snow and ice removal, operate loaders and other highway equipment and vehicles as needed. Maintenance staff may also perform operational tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of Dakota County roadways.
Regular hours for the positions are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; overtime and other shift hours will be required as weather conditions demand. Temporary staff are typically on-board from early November through early April. This is non-benefit earning and no holiday pay is included.

Duties & Responsibilities
These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the positions management approved work schedule is required for all positions.
Operates trucks for snow and ice removal including: hauling sand, mixing sand and salt, plowing and winging snow, and sanding and salting roads.
Performs routine maintenance including but not limited to: patching/crack filling bituminous and manholes, repairing/crack filling concrete, sealing patches, spot graveling, cleaning/sweeping bridge cleaning/sweeping pavement decks, picking up debris, animals and Adopt a Highway bags.
24-hour emergency response to weather including snow, ice, severe storms and flooding conditions and other traffic hazards including accidents and spills.
Operates loaders and other highway equipment.
Perform all other miscellaneous maintenance activities as assigned.

Work Environment
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and calls on the ability to perform strenuous physical tasks on a daily basis. The posture and movement requirement for this position are: sitting, standing, walking, balancing, bending/stooping on a frequent basis and twisting and reaching forward on a continuous basis. Position requires repetitive/constant bending of the arm and use of feet, and frequent grasping of hands. Staff must have the ability to rotate, flex and keep their head in a static position for driving. Work tasks require frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Although rare, some work may require lifting or carrying greater than 50 pounds and a team lift is encouraged.
Exposures may include, but are not limited to changing weather conditions, uneven and/or slippery surfaces, working at heights, dust, dirt, oil, grease, solvents, fumes, noise, sharp edges, and all hazards associated with an equipment repair shop. Position requires sensory demands of hearing, speech, near & far vision, tactile, and spatial perception. Driving is required for this position and staff must have the ability to use a variety of mowers, tractors, pickup trucks, heavy construction equipment, and snowplows. Equipment used but not limited to include: hand and power tools, shovels, saws, chainsaws, grinders, personal computer, personal safety equipment and any of a large list of light and heavy equipment.

Do you have a high school diploma or equivalent?

Do you have a current valid Class A CDL drivers license with combination air brake and tanker endorsements or a current valid Class B CDL drivers license with air brake endorsement?

How many years of snow plowing experience do you have using a commercial snow plow vehicle? This experience must be listed on your application.
