Granite City Food & Brewing is hiring seasonal staff to support increased service during the nearby World Cup events. Short-term positions available: Cook, Host, Server. Seasonal assignments run from early May through mid-July. Ideal candidates are customer-focused, reliable, and able to work a fast-paced, team-oriented shift schedule including nights and weekends.
General Requirements (all roles)
Availability from early May through mid July; flexible to work evenings, weekends, and event days.
Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 40 lbs, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Positive attitude, strong communication, and teamwork.
Valid work authorization.
Food handlers permit or willingness to obtain one if required by local regulations (employer assistance offered where applicable).
Background checks may be required.
Position: Cook (Line Cook / Prep Cook)
Primary responsibilities
Prepare menu items to recipe and quality standards during service and prep shifts.
Maintain station organization, food safety, and proper portioning.
Expedite orders quickly and accurately, coordinate with front-of-house staff.
Monitor inventory of station items; assist with receiving and storage.
Qualifications
Prior restaurant kitchen experience preferred (line or prep).
Knowledge of safe food handling and basic knife skills.
Able to work varied shifts including opening/closing.
Position: Host
Primary responsibilities
Greet and seat guests promptly and warmly; manage wait lists and reservations.
Coordinate table assignments with servers to optimize flow during high-volume periods.
Answer phone calls, provide accurate wait-time estimates and event information.
Maintain dining area cleanliness and readiness.
Qualifications
Excellent customer-service and communication skills.
Comfortable using reservation/waitlist systems and multi-line phone.
Strong organizational skills under high-volume conditions.
Position: Server
Primary responsibilities
Provide attentive, efficient table service: take orders, make menu recommendations, deliver food and beverages, process payments.
Ensure guests have an excellent dining experience; respond promptly to needs and special requests.
Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to manage ticket times and guest flow during peak event periods.
Follow cash handling and POS procedures.
Qualifications
Prior serving experience preferred; strong upselling and customer-service skills.
Ability to balance multiple tables in a busy environment.
Knowledge of menu, beer program, and any event-specific offerings helpful.
