Position Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator will oversee all aspects of volunteer management for our faith-based nonprofit thrift store, serving as the bridge between our community and our ministry. This role focuses on recruiting, training, and scheduling a dedicated volunteer team to maintain store operations while fostering a Christ-centered environment of service and fellowship. The ideal candidate balances retail logistics with relational ministry, ensuring that both store revenue goals and community impact align with our spiritual mission.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reports To: Second Chance Thrift Store Director
Position Type: Part-time, 12 hours per week
Location: On-site at the Second Chance Thrift store
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Operations and Logistics
Recruitment and Intake: Screen, interview, and onboard individuals looking to volunteer.
Scheduling: Create and manage weekly shifts to guarantee adequate coverage for retail processing and customer checkout.
Database Tracking: Utilize volunteer management software to record accurate hours, contact data, and attendance metrics.
Retail Production Support
Task Management: Match volunteer skills with specific thrift store needs, such as sorting/hanging apparel, tagging products, testing electronics, and staging displays.
Policy Enforcement: Train the volunteer team on retail protocols and other store policies and procedures.
Warehouse Partnership: Collaborate closely with Donations Manager and back-of-store staff to ensure donations move efficiently from intake to retail floor.
Retention and Appreciation
Discipleship and Retention: Provide consistent guidance, active conflict resolution, and personal support to ensure high volunteer satisfaction.
Recognition Programs: work with the store director to plan appreciation events, awards, or small perks to honor the dedication of the volunteer base.
Qualifications & Requirements
Faith Commitment: Active personal faith in agreement with our organization's statement of faith and core ministry values.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years working in volunteer coordination, retail management, customer service, or church ministry settings.
Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication, empathy, and leadership capabilities to manage diverse age groups and backgrounds.
Technical Literacy: Proficiency with database systems, scheduling apps, spreadsheets, and social media platforms(Microsoft office suite, Sign-Up App)
Physical Demands: Capacity to stand for prolonged periods, move around the thrift store floor, and safely lift donation boxes up to 30 lbs.
