Second Shift Foreman
Reports To: Director of Operations
Direct Reports: Production employees assigned to second shift

Position Overview
The Second Shift Foreman is responsible for the safe, organized, and efficient execution of production activities during second shift operations. This role focuses on maintaining a safe work environment, driving production output against daily targets, and ensuring the shop is well-organized, staffed, and running smoothly.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires active presence on the floor, real-time problem solving, and strong coordination of people, materials, and workflow to meet production goals.
Key Responsibilities
Production Execution & Throughput
  • Execute the daily production plan as directed by the Director of Operations
  • Drive shift-level output to meet or exceed production targets
  • Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and reallocate labor as needed to maintain flow
  • Ensure jobs are prioritized and sequenced correctly throughout the shift
  • Track and report key production metrics (output, downtime, efficiency)
  • Communicate shift performance, issues, and carryover work to leadership
 
Safety (Primary Emphasis)
  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures on the shop floor
  • Maintain constant awareness of shop conditions to proactively address hazards
  • Stop work immediately for any unsafe condition or behavior
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of equipment
  • Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture
  • Participate in incident reporting and corrective actions as needed
 
Shop Organization & Discipline
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment (5S mindset)
  • Ensure tools, materials, and workstations are properly staged and maintained
  • Enforce standards for housekeeping, equipment care, and work area organization
  • Coordinate material flow to prevent delays or congestion
  • Ensure shift handoffs are clean, clear, and organized
 
Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Directly supervise second shift production employees
  • Provide clear instructions, expectations, and daily direction
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and work quality at a practical level
  • Address minor performance issues in real time; escalate larger concerns to the Director of Operations
  • Support onboarding and training of new employees on second shift
  • Maintain accountability while fostering a productive and respectful work environment
 
Communication & Coordination
  • Act as the primary point of contact for second shift operations
  • Communicate issues related to staffing, materials, equipment, or schedule deviations to the Director of Operations
  • Coordinate with maintenance, materials, and other shifts as needed
  • Provide clear shift reports summarizing production performance and key issues
 
Quality (Execution-Level Responsibility)
  • Ensure work is performed according to established procedures and standards
  • Identify and escalate quality issues to the Director of Operations
  • Reinforce adherence to work instructions without owning the full quality system
  • Support rework or corrective actions as directed
 
Authority & Decision-Making
  • Authorized to reassign labor and adjust workflow within the shift to meet production goals.
  • Authorized to stop work for safety concerns.
  • Authorized to enforce shop rules and expectations.
  • Escalates major operational, personnel, or quality issues to the Director of Operations.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Experience leading or supervising teams preferred
  • Strong understanding of shop operations, workflow, and safety practices
  • Ability to make quick, practical decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Willingness to be hands-on and actively engaged on the shop floor
 
Working Conditions
  • Manufacturing shop environment
  • Second shift hours with consistent on-site presence required
 
What We Offer
Compensation & Schedule
  • Competitive hourly wage: $35.00-$40.00 per hour, based on experience
  • Full-time schedule: 10-hour second shifts, Monday–Friday (no weekends)
    • Second shift: 4 PM – 2:30 AM
  • May require overtime based on production needs
