SUMMARY

The Second Shift Production Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all manufacturing operations during second shift to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely production of quality products. This position provides direct supervision to hourly employees, drives operational performance, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures alignment with company objectives for safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. The Second Shift Production Manager serves as a key member of the Operations Leadership Team and works closely with Production Managers, Manufacturing Leads, Human Resources, and other cross-functional partners to support business growth and operational excellence.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Directly supervise and lead hourly production personnel on Second Shift.
  • Oversee Second Shift manufacturing activities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
  • Monitor operational performance against established goals using hour-by-hour tracking, visual management boards, and other performance management tools to provide real-time visibility and drive accountability.
  • Execute production schedules through ERP-driven work orders and established pull systems to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Production Managers and Manufacturing Leads to optimize workflow, assign daily tasks, remove barriers, and achieve production targets.
  • Conduct regular floor presence and actively manage production performance through Gemba leadership practices.
  • Lead daily stand-up meetings and provide support to resolve operational challenges and maintain production flow.
  • Monitor employee performance, provide coaching and development, and administer corrective actions when necessary.
  • Address employee relations concerns promptly and escalate unresolved issues to Human Resources or leadership as appropriate.
  • Interview, hire, onboard, and train employees to ensure they perform safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Promote and enforce 5S/6S standards, Lean Manufacturing principles, continuous improvement initiatives, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Participate in and support Kaizen events and other continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
  • Communicate and enforce company policies, procedures, and work rules consistently.
  • Partner with Production Managers to identify, develop, and retain talent while supporting succession planning initiatives.
  • Serve as an active member of the Operations Leadership Team and contribute to achieving overall business objectives.
  • Complete and maintain required daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports and metrics, including Managing Daily Improvement (MDI) activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage daily attendance and HRIS timekeeping activities, ensuring accurate completion and authorization of timesheets in alignment with payroll deadlines
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for leading and developing a team of hourly manufacturing employees. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership, direction, and performance management for Second Shift personnel.
  • Establishing clear expectations and accountability for performance, attendance, safety, and quality.
  • Coaching employees to improve performance and support career development.
  • Partner with Production Managers and Manufacturing Leads with performance reviews, disciplinary actions, succession planning, and talent development activities.
  • Fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment that supports employee engagement and operational excellence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred; however, equivalent manufacturing leadership experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience required.
  • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S/6S, continuous improvement, and problem-solving methodologies preferred.

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekdays and weekends, as business needs require.
