Secondary Assistant Principal

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education Level: Master's degree in an approved program for principal certification.
  • Experience Desired: A minimum of four years' teaching experience at the secondary level.
  • Other Requirements: Knowledge of national, regional, state, conference, and local rules, regulations and guidelines. Demonstrated ability to work with others in a positive manner. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets and data entry. Knowledge of the best educational practices at the secondary level, current research on secondary education and co-curricular activities. Knowledge of state law with activities.

REPORTS TO: Secondary Principal

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  1. Assists the principal in the daily management and operation of the high school.
  2. Coordinates co-curricular activities within the building.
  3. Maintains a master schedule of building use for all school activities and community events.
  4. Assists in the supervision of student activities before school, during the day, after school, in the evening, on weekends, and during the summer.
  5. Acts as liaison between coaches, activity leaders, directors, and the Coordinator of Athletics/Physical Education.
  6. Participates in the hiring process for coaches, activity leaders and directors.
  7. Assists the principal in planning and conducting staff meetings, departmental meetings, coaches/activity leaders/directors meetings, and plans and implements staff development activities.
  8. Ensures that all equipment is properly labeled for fixed assets.
  9. Ensures that all safety rules and regulations are distributed, discussed, and reinforced.
  10. Assists the principal in enforcing national, regional, state, conference, District, and building policies.
  11. Assists the principal in developing building procedures.
  12. Assists with student activity violations which include contacts with parents, coaches, activity leaders, and outside agencies.
  13. Be available for travel between locations within and outside the district.
  14. School-level testing coordinator.
  15. Facilitates the ordering of student activity awards.
  16. Oversees the organization and operation of activity award programs.
  17. Serves as site manager for all in-building activities and events.
  18. Participates in community and activities as a representative of the high school.
  19. Posts or makes available activity schedules and calendars.
  20. Assumes the responsibility of the principal during his/her absence.
  21. Adhere to the code of ethics.
