Every member of our team is a valuable resource in this pursuit of excellence, and we are currently seeking a highly qualified and student-centered Secondary English Teacher / Dual Credit Speech Instructor to join our English Department at DeKalb High School!

This position includes teaching high school English courses and offers the opportunity to teach Dual Credit Speech courses through a partnering postsecondary institution.

Your day to day:

  • Teach and instruct students in grades 9-12 in English Language Arts and related coursework.
  • Plan, develop, organize, and deliver engaging instructional lessons aligned to state standards and district curriculum.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback to support academic growth.
  • Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Participate in curriculum development, professional learning, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Support students in developing communication, critical thinking, literacy, and college and career readiness skills.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance student achievement and school culture.
  • Pursue and maintain qualifications necessary to teach Dual Credit Speech coursework when applicable.

  • You have worked hard to obtain a Master's degree in Communication, or a Masters Degree in Education (or related field) with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Communication; or a Bachelors Degree in English, Education, Communication, or a related field with a willingness to pursue graduate coursework leading to Dual Credit Speech credentialing.
  • You have successfully completed student teaching at an accredited college or university.
  • You have obtained state certification and endorsement in English.
