Secondary Coach For Exceptional Learning

The Secondary Coach for Exceptional Learning supports and improves instructional practices for students with exceptional needs in grades 6–12. This position works with teachers, administrators, and support staff to implement IEPs, differentiatedinstruction, and evidence-based strategies in both inclusive and specialized settings.

Day To Day Responsibilities
  • Reports to Director of Specialized Curriculum and Instruction, Exceptional Learning Department
  • Provide instructional coaching to secondary teachers in best practices for exceptional learners, including co-teaching, differentiation, and accommodation.
  • Support teachers in developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Facilitate professional development sessions on topics related to special education, inclusion, and effective classroom strategies.
  • Work with building and district leaders to analyze student data and identify instructional improvement areas.
  • Serve as a resource for curriculum modification and adaptation to meet diverse student needs.
  • Demonstrate effective instructional strategies in classrooms and provide feedback to staff.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal special education laws and SPS policies.
  • Participate in student support teams, IEP meetings, and other collaborative processes as required.
  • Support educators in implementing differentiated instruction, multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), and inclusive classroom practices.
  • Stay current with best practices, research, and developments in exceptional learning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • Valid special education teaching license, moderate disabilities.
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience with exceptional learners at the secondary level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education law, IEP development, and evidence-based instructional strategies is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Experience with data-driven instructional improvement.
