SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

The Secondary Math & Literacy MTSS Coordinator is a district-level leader who supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic MTSS structures across grades 6-12. This role is responsible for building coherent systems, data protocols, and professional learning structures that support effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction and intervention in both math and literacy.

The coordinator serves as a key liaison between district leadership, school leaders, instructional coaches, MTSS designees, interventionists, and teachers to ensure students receive timely, targeted, and responsive support. This role requires strong instructional knowledge, systems-level thinking, coaching expertise, and the ability to translate data into clear, actionable next steps for schools.

WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Support the development and implementation of districtwide MTSS structures for secondary math and literacy, including clear processes for identifying, supporting, monitoring, and exiting students receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic intervention.
  • Establish and refine data protocols that help schools use multiple data points to identify students in need of targeted or intensive support in math and literacy.
  • Support schools in using assessment data, classroom data, progress monitoring data, and other district-defined decision-making data sources to make informed instructional and intervention decisions.
  • Build systems that help schools consistently track:
  • student risk indicators and MTSS entry/exit decisions,
  • intervention assignments,
  • progress monitoring schedules and outcomes,
  • student response to intervention over time.
  • Partner with principals, instructional coaches, teachers, MTSS designees, and interventionists to ensure intervention decisions are aligned to student need and responsive to Tier 1 instruction.
  • Support schools in matching intervention intensity to student need, including considerations related to frequency, duration, group size, instructional focus, and progress monitoring expectations.
  • Support the design and delivery of professional development for MTSS designees, interventionists, instructional coaches, teachers, and school leaders related to secondary academic intervention systems, data analysis, and evidence-aligned instructional practices.
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to schools as they implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 math and literacy supports.
  • Support teachers and instructional coaches in strengthening intervention practices, including the use of data to adjust instruction, monitor student progress, and determine next steps.
  • Collaborate with principals and school-based teams to problem-solve barriers to implementation, including scheduling, staffing, student engagement, intervention access, and consistency of intervention delivery.
  • Prepare agendas, data summaries, protocols, and tools that help school teams move from data analysis to clear problem statements, action steps, owners, and timelines.
  • Monitor trends across secondary schools to identify common needs, bright spots, implementation challenges, and opportunities for district-level support.
  • Collaborate with district teams to ensure secondary math and literacy intervention systems are aligned with broader instructional priorities, curriculum implementation, assessment systems, and coaching structures.
  • Support continuous improvement of district MTSS systems by gathering feedback, analyzing implementation data, and recommending refinements to tools, protocols, and professional learning structures.
