JOB TITLE: Secondary Social Studies Teacher

EVALUATION: Annual Evaluation by Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid and current Michigan Teaching Certificate required. Certification with grades 612 preferred; candidates holding combined grade band certifications (e.g., 59 and 712) may also be considered
  • RX or CX endorsement required; additional endorsement areas encouraged; other social studies program endorsements may be considered
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to listen and to give directions and instructions
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, prepare, implement and document high quality instruction and assessments to meet the needs of all students according to State of Michigan standards
  • Create live learning sessions for students to learn on-site or virtually, individually or in small groups
  • Monitor student progress, log-in times, grades, and target end date and analyze data to make plans for interventions
  • Actively participate in weekly meetings to discuss students short-term and long-term progress
  • Mentor students within the program and document necessary conversations
  • Honor and carry out district initiatives, professional development, and curriculum
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, and colleagues, and administration
  • Participate in a Professional Learning Community setting by collaborating regularly with team of teachers
  • Integrate technology effectively in a variety of forms on a daily basis as appropriate
  • Exhibit a positive demeanor and support a positive work environment
  • Maintain consistent attendance and report to work on time as expected
  • Attend all meetings and professional development required for this position
  • Complete assigned tasks, reports, and other requirements on time

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and walk over extended periods of time
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a work day, and to sit/stand several times in short periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy items.
