Position Details
Gwinn Area Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team at Gwinn Middle/High School as a full-time Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students with special needs with an emphasis on student behavior supports and will be committed to providing them with the best possible education.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
- Understand a wide range of disabilities and how they impact students' education.
- Provide direct instruction to students in a variety of subjects and grade levels
- Use a variety of teaching methods and materials to engage students and promote learning
- Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to ensure that students are receiving the appropriate services and accommodations
- Uses evidence-based practices to deliver instruction
- Monitor and track student progress, and adjust instruction as needed
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs
- Schedule, attend and facilitate IEP meetings and complete the required paperwork in a timely manner
- Attend professional development sessions as required
- Upholds standards of confidentiality and sensitive information.
- Redirect behavior using appropriate and evidence-based strategies
- Familiar with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field
- State certification in Special Education
- Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities, including but not limited to, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
- Strong and timely communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced school environment
- Arrive to work on time daily
- Check email and communicate with partners frequently
