    Secondary Special Education Teacher

    Salary: Starting at $40,905

    Position Details

    Gwinn Area Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team at Gwinn Middle/High School as a full-time Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students with special needs with an emphasis on student behavior supports and will be committed to providing them with the best possible education.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
    • Understand a wide range of disabilities and how they impact students' education.
    • Provide direct instruction to students in a variety of subjects and grade levels
    • Use a variety of teaching methods and materials to engage students and promote learning
    • Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to ensure that students are receiving the appropriate services and accommodations
    • Uses evidence-based practices to deliver instruction
    • Monitor and track student progress, and adjust instruction as needed
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs
    • Schedule, attend and facilitate IEP meetings and complete the required paperwork in a timely manner
    • Attend professional development sessions as required
    • Upholds standards of confidentiality and sensitive information.
    • Redirect behavior using appropriate and evidence-based strategies
    • Familiar with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field
    • State certification in Special Education
    • Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities, including but not limited to, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and autism spectrum disorders
    • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
    • Strong and timely communication and collaboration skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced school environment
    • Arrive to work on time daily
    • Check email and communicate with partners frequently
