JOB SUMMARY:

Hamilton Community Schools invites dedicated Speech and Language Pathologists to apply for the open position of Hamilton Secondary School Speech and Language Pathologist that's available starting in the 2026-27 school year. The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic, direct, and consultative services to students with communication disorders that impact their educational performance. Reporting to the Director of Student Services and Building Principal, the SLP evaluates, develops, and implements individualized treatment plans to support student growth in speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication. This position plays a vital role in assisting students to access the curriculum and participate successfully in the school environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Essential functions are the core responsibilities required to perform this role. These duties ensure students receive appropriate support for their communication needs. The Speech-Language Pathologist is also responsible for other duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the district.

Assessment and Evaluation:

• Conduct speech, language, and communication evaluations for students suspected of having disabilities under IDEA.
• Interpret test results and classroom observations to identify strengths and needs.
• Prepare comprehensive written reports with recommendations for interventions and accommodations.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for eligibility and service planning.

Intervention and Services:

• Provide direct speech and language services to students in individual and group settings.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives.
• Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on data and student response.
• Support students in developing communication skills that improve academic and social success.

Collaboration and Consultation:

• Serve as a member of IEP, 504, MTSS, and student support teams.
• Consult with teachers, administrators, and families on communication strategies and supports.
• Provide professional development and resources to staff regarding speech and language development.
• Coordinate with outside service providers when appropriate.

Compliance and Professional Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Adhere to ethical standards and licensure requirements for speech-language pathology.
• Stay current with evidence-based practices and professional learning in the field.
• Support district initiatives promoting inclusive practices and equitable access for all students.

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisor, administrators, and school community members.
• Promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
• Participate in appropriate professional activities/training when necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

• Normal and disordered speech, language, and communication development.
• Special education laws and regulations, including IDEA and Section 504.
• Evidence-based assessment tools and intervention methods.
• Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies.

Skills:

• Strong diagnostic, therapeutic, and documentation skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration with students, staff, and families.
• Ability to design and implement individualized therapy plans.
• Proficiency with technology for therapy, assessment, and recordkeeping.

Abilities:

• Ability to establish positive and supportive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Capacity to manage multiple cases and therapy groups effectively.
• Ability to adapt strategies for students with a wide range of communication needs.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
• Valid Michigan SLP license (or speech-language impairment teaching certificate with limited school-based license) required.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred.
• Prior experience working in a school setting is preferred.

EVALUATION:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and administrative guidelines on the evaluation of personnel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, read, operate a computer or other devices, reach with hands or arms, and may occasionally push or lift up to 35 lbs.
