Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respectedteam that is responsible for providing a wide variety of technical and administrative support services. The incumbent will serve as the secretary to the Branch Chief. Typical work assignments will include but not limited to:

  • Exercising exclusive control over the supervisor's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements and conferences;
  • Reviewing all outgoing correspondence prepared for the Branch Chief's signature and correcting documents as necessary;
  • Screening telephone calls and visitors;
  • Reading, screening and processing all incoming and outgoing mail;
  • Composing a variety of written material;
  • Developing a variety of recurring reports and documents;
  • Serves as the office's receptionist;
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level.Specialized experience is defined as serving as a secretary or principal office assistant performing such tasks as making appointments and maintaining calendars, preparing a variety of documents (e.g., letters, memos and reports), screening calls and visitors, screening incoming and outgoing mail and other work which administratively supports the work of an office. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service and could have been gained in the federal, public, or private sector.

To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
