Summary: Provide Public Safety dispatching services to assure safety and security for members of the campus community.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and document calls for services and dispatch officers as needed.
  • Assess the nature of various public safety and emergency situations, responding in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Carry out orders and responses to emergencies with accuracy and speed.
  • Operate Public Safety Department two-way radio and computer systems.
  • Monitor cameras as needed.
  • Maintain accurate dispatching records i.e. daily dispatcher log, incident reports, officer daily reports, etc.
  • Give out information on a "need to know" basis. Requests for confidential information should be directed to the Chief of Public Safety
  • High degree of confidentiality.
  • Exhibits good judgment and discretion.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

This position follows a rotating bi-weekly schedule:

  • Week One:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday

  • 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM

  • Week Two:

  • Tuesday, Thursday 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM

  • Saturday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

  • Then back to week one. Some flexibility in scheduling is available within reason.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely during both telephone and radio communications.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a polite and tactful manner.
  • Ability to maintain composure during emergency situations.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good multi-tasking skills.
