Overview
- Under general supervision, this position is responsible for institutional and related security work of average difficulty and performs related work as required. This is the entry-level working class in the security guard sub-series.
- An employee in this class may be assigned to work any shift while providing a full range of institutional and other security activities, such as the protection of public buildings .
Responsibilities
- Performs various security activities, such as patrolling facilities, monitoring alarms and security systems, checking safety hazards, and identifying violations of laws and rules.
- Operates security equipment in the performance of duties, including two-way radios, communication devices, patrol vehicles, and other transportation vehicles.
- Controls the entrance and exit of individuals by verifying identity, purpose of visit, and authorization. Escorts individuals as needed to ensure their safety.
- Respond to calls and take appropriate action to assist in emergency situations. Searches for and apprehends missing or unauthorized individuals.
- Reports security concerns to supervisors. Communicate with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
- Prepares and maintains various reports, including incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.

Education and Experience
- Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school is required. Qualifying full-time law enforcement, security, or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Necessary Special Qualifications
- A valid driver's license
- A current CPR certification (preferred, but we can certify here if needed)
