Pre-screening may be conducted by an approved medical vendor prior to starting employment.

District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum and instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

Department Primary Purpose: Under general supervision, provide security and protection for students, staff, and school property.

Qualifications:

Education: Certification: High School Diploma or GED Certified as a Security officer or watchman preferred Must be at least 21 years old due to potential assignments to the high schools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to speak, read, write, and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to communicate effectively verbally. Ability to read information. Knowledge of local and state policies involving legal searches and recording investigations, safety training laws, regulations, and ordinances. Ability to write reports and effectively deal with conflicts. Experience: Background in security, military police, or other related experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Patrol school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles. Check cars for parking authorization and determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas. Check exterior lighting and emergency access routes. Monitor school halls for intruders, undesirables, and safety hazards. Check student and visitor passes on assigned campuses. Check for loiterers on or around school campuses and take appropriate action to report or monitor such persons or suspicious activity. Monitor parking lots and keep students from sitting on or in cars around the school campus during school hours and immediately before or after school. Assist teachers and administrators with disruptive or violent persons or students in violation of the Student Code-of Conduct to such a degree as to warrant the immediate intervention of security personnel in accordance with accepted policies and procedures of this district. Report suspected indications of violence, gang fights, riots, or unusual circumstances on or near school campuses or properties under the control and jurisdiction of L.J.I.S.D. Sound fire signals or alerts fire department and school personnel in event of fire and assists in evacuation. Make written reports of all security violations. Report unusual conditions or malfunctioning or heating, plumbing, or electrical system. Confront unauthorized persons for questioning, routes, or detains them and/or calls police for assistance according to emergency action plan. Patrol all district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Conduct foot patrol inspection of all doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secured. Report in writing all license plates and description of vehicles parked on school grounds after hours or after school events. Patrol assigned campus and routes walking or driving within district jurisdiction. Perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED: Ability to use alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and/or security equipment.

Physical Demands: Environmental Factors: Ability to stand, walk, talk, or hear 67 to 99% of the work day. Able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel 34 to 66% of the work day. Push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, and/or crawl 0 to 33% of the work day. Occasionally 0 to 33% of the work day lift and/or carry objects weighing from 10 to more than 100 lbs. Special vision requirements include 2020 corrected ability to identify and distinguish colors. Be able to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus, judge distances and spatial relationships, and observe an area peripherally. Work environment exposure to hot and cold temperatures, toxic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock 0 to 33% of the work day. Ability to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles and wet, humid conditions 34 to 66% of the work day. Typical noise level for the work environment is loud noise. Hearing requirements include ability to hear alarms on equipment, client calls, and instructions from department staff. Repetitive motion actions include use of foot control both feet 7 hrs. of the work day, use of hands both hands 7 hrs. of the work day, grasping simple-light objects 7 hrs. of the work day, and grasping firm-heavy objects 1-2 hrs. of the work day.
