Position Overview
University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men is seeking a dedicated and vigilant School Security Guard to help maintain a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment. This position plays a critical role in protecting students, staff, and school property while promoting a positive school climate.
The Security Guard works under the direct supervision of the Director of Safety and Security or a designated administrator.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure safe and orderly arrival, dismissal, and class transitions
Patrol and monitor school property to maintain safety and security
Supervise students during breakfast, lunch, and passing times
Enforce the school's code of conduct and promote positive behavior
Respond to and assist with emergencies or disruptive situations
Collaborate with school administration, staff, and emergency personnel
Provide professional and courteous assistance to parents and visitors
Actively monitor hallways during passing periods to ensure students report to class
Patrol assigned areas consistently; avoid congregating in one location
Monitor high-priority areas such as restrooms, stairwells, and exits
Assist faculty when requested, following proper communication protocols
Respond promptly to calls for support, prioritizing proximity
Conduct post-dismissal sweeps to ensure proper student supervision
Escort students as directed by administration when necessary
Perform routine exterior checks of the building for safety concerns
Complete reports and documentation as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following:
One (1) year of experience as a security guard or in youth supervision, counseling, or instruction
Completion of at least 30 college-level credit hours
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirement:
Current registration as a Security Guard with the New York State Department of State
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of school safety procedures and district policies
Understanding of adolescent behavior and conflict resolution strategies
Ability to identify and respond to potential safety risks
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to prepare basic reports and documentation
Sound judgment and decision-making skills
Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
Physical ability to meet the demands of the role
Professionalism, discretion, and reliability
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $32,000 - $35,000 (based on experience and qualifications)
